Guest guest
Janet! Your journey sounds like mine; I now am hypersensitive to products and smells that never bothered me before. First, it was pain with breathing due to exposure, with the majority of symptoms targeting my lungs, brochial tubes, eyes, head. Now, this exposure has cloned itself yet again and continues, it seems, to evolve into a much more multi-symptom illness which now prevents me from eating or doing much of what I once did. Isn't this very progression part of the diagnosis Dr. Thrasher discusses? Our immune systems, it seems, were once truly under attack, and they reacted to this enemy as they were designed to do. However, after repeated exposures and countless battles, the immune " soldiers " have run amok, with no managing officer to tell them, " Hey, folks, false alarm. Everything's fine. "  Am I way off here? If so, I'll take my quasi-military analogy and revise my explanation to myself. Without that reassuring order that " all is well, " our immune system troups are hypervigilant and overeager to view any " visitors " through our senses as the " enemy. "  Here we go: a reaction to the " alien " substance and a rush of our defenses, even if no threat exists. Enter our pain, our edema, our cognitive symptoms...a multitude of responses that would help us survive a real attack but makes life miserable without one.  This is what drives my objection to the use of the diagnostic label MCS, which I have tended to view as a long-term illness or susceptibility. I am over 50 and have never before had any particular sensitivities; I loved perfume, ate whatever I wanted; never worried about odors or germs or much of anything except tangible dangers we all fear. Just a thought...sally ________________________________ From: " Gingersnap1964@... Being fairly new to all this and knowing how mold effects me its difficult for me to determine whether it's mold that's causing the problem or a chemical. Beings theres such a strong musty odor coming from the crawl space I automatically assume it's mold. I stand corrected > > Tug, > > I'm going to interject here and will do so without breaking > confidentiality. > > Below you state " my mold exposure " and nothing else. As you have > previously reported on Sickbuildings it has been demonstrated > that you are also chemically reactive. It is not just mold.
