My youngest daughter was diagnosed with sick building syndrome and has been out of school since October after having repeated reactions. The regular allergist referred her to an environmental doctor after every test they ran failed to show anything indicative as to why she was having a reaction. The school has tried to say that it is all in her head and yet her doctor says no, there is something there that they aren't telling us. We met with the health department and they aren't completely convinced one way or the other and said that there is nothing they can do as it appears the school is padding the information that they are sending to them. So, at the request of the doctor, the school and health department, we decided to try to reintroduce her to the school in a non-stress situation. She's almost 16 so she knows how her body feels and she has been completely drug free, inhaler free since November. Today she was feeling great and her skin was clear. When the school called today to say that they had an award for her in the office, she wanted to get it so we went to the school, picked up the award and decided to walk around a bit. That lasted less than 10 minutes before she started to show outward signs of something. Her face under and around her eyes became reddened and after about 10 minutes she began to wheeze followed by naseau and a headache. She looked like crap. I felt as if I had planted my face in a pile of insulation and even after washing my face when I got home I sit here hours later still feeling itchy. I guess we are back to square one as to what to do because it is obvious that she can't return to the high school and she has two years left. Guest guest
Sue, NOTHING is more important than your daughter's health!! I recommend getting her out ASAP. Teach her a home via a computer or check out virtual teaching academies. I know a family in PA who have 2 children both sick from their middle school. They were taught at home via computer. They first had a tutor come in but the books and papers from school and probably the teachers clothing made them sick within 15 minutes. I am a former teacher sickened from my workplace and it is a nightmare to go through. The children depend on the adults in their life to take care of them. If the school isn't then you must! Take her out and never look back!!! It can become a debilitating illness than will only get worse. Feel free to contact me ANYTIME! Sue Well I don't know what to do now. Guest guest
Sue, YOu are at least lucky that you can connect the school to her symptoms, keep her away from there, get to an environmental doctor, this is obviously not all in her " head " (although she may have some " head symptoms " too, but these are part of the reaction). I am Mom of a now 20 yo who got sick at age 16 and dropped out of high school, 4 years later we have been to a zillion docs and other health practitioners, spent a ton of wasted dollars, and he is still lying in bed w/no energy to participate in life, chronic pain and every body system out of whack. We are living away from the rest of our family in a matchbox of a hotel room while he is being treated by an environmental doctor (Rea in Dallas). Bottom line, while initially we worried about high school, school is the least of our concerns now if he ever gets well and wants to finish high school, he's a smart kid and he will, but really it is so so unimportant. Focus on getting her well, a big part of which is Avoidance, high school is 2 more years, she's got the rest of her life ahead of her! All the best to you, Sue V. >Take her to Environmetal med Dr let her get GED at home life more importan> > >God Bless !! >dragonflymcs >Mayleen > > > > >________________________________ >From: Sue <sebell1862@...> > >Sent: Mon, April 12, 2010 9:57:42 PM >Subject: [] Test Failure at School > > >Well I don't know what to do now.
