Guest guest
From today's New York Post http://tinyurl.com/8a2lyh9 This is not the first time that public health officials have declared a "mysterious illness" they have absolutely no explanation for .. a "mental disorder". Remember the Washington Redskin cheer-leader who saw her health deteriorate after being vaccinated .. or .. the numerous victims of Morgellon's Disease who were told their symptoms were "psychosomatic" .. meaning their physical disorders were "brought on or made worse by their emotional state"? Don't know what caused these young girls to exhibit symptoms similar to Tourette's syndrome .. but .. I agree with the parents in rejecting "mental disorder" as a valid diagnosis. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Med mystery: What makes girls tic? By LUKE HAMMILL, DON KAPLAN A mysterious illness that produces symptoms similar to Tourette’s syndrome is sweeping through an upstate high school, hitting a dozen girls since fall. The state Department of Health has diagnosed the ailment — which includes spasms so severe that some have missed more than a month of classes — as a mental disorder, one victim’s dad told The Post yesterday. But he’s not buying it. “We don’t have a clear diagnosis, even though one doctor is saying we do,†said Dupont, of Batavia, whose daughter is among the most seriously affected. “He’s calling it ‘conversion disorder.’ We don’t accept that,†Dupont said. The girls began to fall sick at Le Roy Junior/Senior HS in September. There has been no official explanation as to why it has affected only female students. Medical texts say conversion disorder is marked by the appearance of physical symptoms without a physical cause. Experts consider the symptoms a response to anxiety. At a contentious meeting with about 200 parents Wednesday night, Dr. Young, of the state Health Department, said all 12 girls were being treated and “they’re actually doing pretty well.†
Guest guest
They did here in 09 for the so called swine flu epidemic. I kept my son home to be sure he didn't get one. Didn't this year in our state. Doc. offices push them to all ages. Kathy > > If these girls are in high school, perhaps it could also have been due to a meningitis c vaccine. My kids were offerred meningitis vaccines in high school some years ago, and of course I told them to steer clear of them. > > In the States, they don't offer students flu vaccines at school, by any chance, do they? > Just wondering, > Aasa > > > ponse to anxiety. > At a contentious meeting with about 200 parents Wednesday night, Dr. Young, of the state Health Department, said all 12 girls were being treated and “they’re actually doing pretty well.†>  >
