They are now made out of silicone which i think is inert.  I have used the

silicone ones without a problem.  Soaking them when new in baking soda. 

3M  makes silicone respirators.

North makes silicone respirators

I know, finding a mask can be a bear cause of all the rubber and plastic that

are in most of them. In my case,
