Guest guest
Kim A lot of people do their work right here and get feedback if they desire. So If you would like, join in steve New member Hi All, I am new to The Work and boy do I have alot of work to do! I am wondering if people here work together and help each other. If so, when and where? I am so happy to have found " Loving What Is " . It makes so much sense and seems like such common sense. I am using The Work in everyday situations and I feel much more peaceful and effective and happy. I have a specific thought problem that I would like to do with someone, because I am shying away from the truth or not getting exactly what the problem is. I would like to get to the bottom of this one. Anyhow, hello and I am glad to be here. Kim

Oh well, buyer beware I guess? I'm amazed at the ease with which shrinks prescribe them. I wasprescribed Lexapro and I asked about side effects and she said"nothing, maybe a little upset stomach." Guest guest
Thank you, BJ... This is all so very helpful. I have not read a lot about OCD (been busy with reading about Asperger's, etc.) but I am reading Helping Your Child with OCD right now. I'm learning quite a lot from it. I am going to do some more searching for a therapist who can help my girls... I'll look for some local groups and try to find a professional that way and I'll also look at the website you mentioned. About the Asperger's... You explained the difference in Aspie obsessiveness vs. OCD quite well...We recently had this discussion on another group. Also, about the tics... Many Asperger kids have tics, but they are usually somewhat mild. Some qualify for the Tourette's diagnosis, like my 1st daughter. My 2nd daughter has a motor tic, but I don't think she would qualify for TS at this point because she doesn't have vocal tics. I would look into Asperger's a little more for your son. The anxiety and obsessive, hyperfocus nature is usually a strong indicator. How is he with friendships? My oldest daughter makes friends quite well, but she tends to talk about her obsessions too much. I think if she went to public school, she would have a pretty hard time with friendships. She only sees her homeschooled friends about once a week. Thanks again for all the wonderful info and support. I'm going to save your e-mail and refer back to it. Guest guest
Hi , I'm new here too. My son hasn't been officially diagnosed yet, but your daughter sounds a lot like him. In fact everything you said except for the counting sounds exactly like my son. He is also very social and well adjusted most of the time, but will have times where he says he's ugly, no one likes him, he hates himself. And he thinks I love his brother (newly adopted 7 year old) more than him all the time. If they are arguing and I ask them to stop, will never stop. He HAS to have the last word. And then I will tell him that he's not stopping, he will say that I always take his brother's side. He is also adopted from Vietnam and now when he gets mad at me he's started saying he's going to go back to Vietnam. One of our biggest issues is homework. This has been an issue since he was 5 and first started having homework. He doesn't want to get any answers wrong ever. We just had a big episode tonight because I was helping with his homework and then we got to something more difficult and suddenly he started whining and moaning and putting his head down. I asked him to stop and he wouldn't. It is so frustrating that he just shuts down like this and won't even let me help. He started saying he would rather just get a failing grade than to complete the work even with my help. It would be okay if this just happened occasionally, but it happens at least 2-3 times per week when I'm helping him with homework and I'm just tired, tired, tired of it. The only supplement I'm using with him is Inositol. Sorry, I don't have any advice. The Inositol did stop his obsession with germs and hand washing and stopped him from having to arrange things a certain way every day. I wish it helped more with the other stuff. > > Hi all, > I have a 7 year old daughter diagnosed with OCD 2 weeks ago. She counts throughout the day and says that she can't stop and its driving her crazy. She also has anxiety and anger control issues, especially with her 4 year old brother. She has started cognitive behavior therapy and I am giving her supplements of St. 's wart, primrose oil and valerian root, which I researched as the homeopathic choice for anxiety reduction. We decided to go this route first before we decide to go with Prozac. She is all over the map though- she is very social and seems well adjusted most of the time, but then has times that she says she is ugly, bad and no one likes her. The mood swings come and go often. We are having a difficult time parenting her- she says we love her brother more than she when we discipline her. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, has anyone else attempted this holistic approach instead of meds? > >
Guest guest
Hi I am new as well and just wrote about my 7 year old daughter who seems similar to her daughter except for the counting. My daughter also does the homework thing with me 2-3 times per week where she shuts down completely and then I cannot do anything with her. It is very frustrating! The ocd has affected her schooling and she is very behind. We were able to get her on an IEP this year at least but it has not helped a ton. I was hoping to hear that inositol would help more for the other stuff, as I was going to pick some up and try it this week. Anyone else have suggestions other than SSRI's?? We are starting with a new therapist tomorrow. Have gone through 2 others with not much success. This one hopefully will do ERP with her and it will help. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I don't think I have my son on a high enough dose of the inositol. It's encouraging that it has at least helped him a little, so I'm working on increasing the dose and am hoping it will help more. It's somewhat comforting to know that others are having the same struggles with homework. Sometimes I've felt that it must be something that I'm doing wrong as a parent. But that can't be the case. Perhaps my biggest error is getting mad at him if it's truly something he can't control. But I'm only just now coming to the realization that it is something he can't control, so hopefully that's a start in the right direction. I need to learn more about ERP. > > > > Hi all, > > I have a 7 year old daughter diagnosed with OCD 2 weeks ago. She counts throughout the day and says that she can't stop and its driving her crazy. Guest guest
Hi We have read several books on OCD in children and have used some of the tips they suggest. We are just taking it one day at a time-some are better than others. Thanks for the kind words, Subject: Re: new member To: Date: Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 7:44 PM Hi , I have sympathy for you about loving the brother more. Sigh, with my 3 sons I think they each thought I preferred another. I know at times I would hear " you don't love me " or " like me " and that I did love " X " etc. And, LOL, really never got punished because he never did anything, no behavior problems. So I guess usually they figured it was I loved the most since the other 2 sons had their share of punishments. Lots here have tried or are using supplements. I will say what works for one person may or may not work for another. Can just " try " . We used inositol powder for about 3 years, did well on it. That was when my son was in middle school. He's 20 now. Tried it again a couple times since middle school and won't touch his OCD this time. But others have felt it helped, then others have had no response. We tried the St s Worth this past year for...gee, I'd say 16 weeks or more.... 900mg a day. No luck there for us. To shorten my story, these last couple years or more we have tried LOTS of things (besides prescription) and nothing has touched my son's OCD or the anxiety it brings. But that doesn't mean what we tried hasn't helped someone else! We haven't tried any Native Remedy products but some here have and are using them. was on Celexa in 9th and 10th grades, he did well on that. But he doesn't want to go back on medication, so have been trying other things. Have you looked at any of the books for children about OCD? > > Hi all, > I have a 7 year old daughter diagnosed with OCD 2 weeks ago. Guest guest
, did she enjoy the children's books on OCD? Wondered if she saw herself in any of them. Usually such a relief for them to identify the " craziness " as OCD and not them! Going back to what I said about alternative/supplements -- I think there is nothing that is going to touch 's OCD, he makes me think of that term " cast iron stomach " where people can eat/drink anything without bad effects. (And really, if you saw him eat...LOL!) We've just tried one thing at a time though, sigh, maybe he needs a combination. It is irritating since inositol powder worked so well back in middle school and even a higher dosage (18 grams+) didn't touch it last year. And he just won't try prescription again, stubborn! > > Hi > We have read several books on OCD in children and have used some of the tips they suggest. Guest guest
She has- she now says OCD is not going to win mornings that she has to put 6 different outfits on until something feels right. By being able to call it something out loud I think she feels that its something that is not internally her " fault " . It seems to help some. Guest guest
Well good for her, ! Even if she switches a bit, maybe she will do it less, not let OCD win. > > She has- she now says OCD is not going to win mornings that she has to put 6 different outfits on until something feels right. Guest guest
Thanks, Ann... it's nice to be in an area with so many committed breastfeeding enthusiasts. There were about 40 of us in Raleigh sitting for the exam. I think it would be great to network with other PPLC's in the area. I'll definitely keep everyone posted on my results. Hopefully I'll be shouting from the rooftops and not whispering from a sick bed. lol Tammie To: From: aconsmith@...Date: Fri, 6 Aug 2010 08:24:03 -0400Subject: Re:new member Yay Tammie -- So happy you have taken this step and so look forward to working with you in this area. Guest guest
I’m a new member too. My name is DaNeen Hawkins and I have a 9 year old daughter who was recently diagnosed with Asperger’s and ADHD (le). It has been a rough journey of friends and relatives treating her harshly for things she struggles with (she still can’t ride a bike, open a bottled water, tie her shoe...) and blaming me for her symptoms! Even my husband blames me for her symptoms and will verbalize that to the professionals! “She doesn’t have Asperger’s (to the ones who diagnosed her) – it’s my wife’s fault she acts the way she does.†He even said, “There’s a big difference between Asperger’s and a spoiled brat and what we have here is a spoiled brat!†So I’m joining the group to regain some sanity.
