Guest guest
Hi Joan, I was told to take Cheleated Magnesium manufactured by the Albion method, (says it on the bottle) One of our patients said Dr. B said it I think. Anyway I take 200 to 400 mgs, whatever falls out in my hand. I should take it every day, when I did that I felt much better, but sometimes I get so tired of taking so much #$%#$##. Guest guest
Hi Connie (MI), Thanks for the info on the Cheleated Magnesium. I will add it to my list of " pills to take " . My Best, Joan
Guest guest
According to my nutritionalist the best magnesium in descending order: magnesium glycinate, aspartate, citrate, chelate, carbonate, and oxide. Guest guest
I have found through much research that Magnesium, Selenium and Calcium all work hand in hand. Just consult with Doc to see what doses would be safe for you. I found a great combo that also has Boron, then I add Selenium and extra Magnesium at levels discussed with Doc. Many people dont realize that severe leg cramps/muscle cramps may not be fibromyalgia as they thought, rather lack of magnesium. T. Guest guest
>>I thought the gluten sensitive enteropathie/magnesium deficiency connection was interesting. Ahhh Hah! So magnesium deficiency strikes again! Thanks for this link, . I like the table of foods with the corresponding mag amounts. I found one for the calcium and thought I should include one for magnesium. .
Guest guest
Sharon: Andy once said Magnesium Citrate is the best absorbed. It comes in a big tablet and I grind it up for my little guy and put it in juice...has no taste. SOLGAR is who makes it. Got it at the HFS. Guest guest
>>> Can someone recommend a good quality magnesium supplement that I can purchase at the HFS or on-line? Also, has anyone used this for your kids to treat hyperactivity? Yes, we use Natural Calm magnesium from the health food store. It is very absorbable and I see calming results in 15-20 minutes. I mainly take it to help with anxiousness and headaches. It helps my older son calm down too when he gets a little jumpy. .

Guest guest
We've found that liquid magnesium chloride from either Cardiovascular Research Group or Allergy Research Group works wonders for calming and focus. You can get both pretty cheaply at vitaminshoppe.com Gaylen

BTW, please note that some people (often low sulfur people) have a metabolic problem where they already have too much citrate and they will feel worse if they take a lot of citrate based supplements. These people can take any OTHER soluble form of magnesium and feel fine. Andy
Guest guest
I'm not but I want to tell you that magnesium oxide is not as easily absorbed by the body as magnesium citrate, magnesium glycinate, and one other kind that I can't remember right now. Kirkman's sells the mag citrate and mag glycinate. I give my kids mag citrate. Ethan got hyper when I gave him mag oxide, I think because his body could not break it down, or whatever it is supposed to do to it. So personally, I take the mag oxide that I bought for them and use it on myself, but I use only the mag citrate on the kids. Can you do epsom salt baths? This is an easier and less expensive way to get mag sulfate into your child than the cream, although we have the cream, too. I just don't use it that often. I give the epsom salt in the bath every night. I believe they do absorb some magnesium this way but the most important thing about the epsom salt baths is the sulfation process that goes on. If you email me off board I will email you some information that I compiled, and had it edited by Owens, who works with Rosemary Waring, the person who did the phenolsulfotransferase studies. added some information about the research in the write-up that I made. Guest guest
, Do you know w/ the epsom salts if you have to worry about feeding viruses? Also, solaray has a great magnesium product, magnesium and potassium asporotates w/ bromelain. I believe the bromelain also helps w/ the enzymes. nne > > Dear , > > > My thanks again > > bel
Guest guest
Sorry a bit late on this. Some of my posts have " Mike and " on it because I figured out how to get mail at our downstairs computer so that is why it is different. But I can't " mentally " seem to sort things well that way. >>> In a reply to my last question re SSRIs and enzymes you suggested that the difficulty my daughter was having with concentration maybe helped by magmesium supplementation The oxide form of most all minerals is about the least absorbable of all, although it is usually cheap. Carbonate is next least absorbable but they are close. Such as iron oxide is rust, and you see how well that dissolves away in rain! I have used magnesium citrate and magnesium sulfate and other mag forms (glycinate, aspartate, etc). Magnesium is usually not expensive and there are many choices in grocers and health food stores. Many are a mixture of forms. I would suggest picking anything that has very little oxide and carbonate. >>seeing as I think she has sulphonation problems as well, should I try epsom salts cream (will she absorb magnesium this way?) You can absorb both magnesium and sulfate this way. For sulphonation issues, usually people are looking to supply the sulfate (not the magnesium), but I think getting extra magnesium is good too. I give the mag sulfate now for the magnesium, but feel if we happen to get sulfate along with it that is an added bonus. The mag sulfate covers both bases. But too much mag sulfate or any mag can lead to loose stools, so when you see loose stools you know that is the limit. .
Guest guest
if you are looking for help with constipation then magensium citrate seems to work well if you are looking for better absorbtion with no laxative effect then magnesium chelate is better. > Can you direct me to information regarding giving magnesium to a 3 year > old with SID? Guest guest
Ethan did not react well to mag oxide, and for me, it can make me sleepy. Ethan does tolerate kirkman labs magnesium citrate powder just fine though. There is some info on a site by natural calm that talks about how magnesium potassium and calcium interact. I do think this is important info in that for Ethan, I recently began giving him a little potassium every day and he improved even further. So perhaps the magnesium was causing him to dump potassium and he needed it?? Not sure. W --- In , " tinalunabean " <lolabryn@a...> wrote: > Hi all. Guest guest
>>> Which type of magnesium supplement is best for constipation? Actually, I think any type of magnesium works just fine...you just take enough of it to achieve the desired effect, LOL. We used magnesium sulfate (epsom salts, the ultimate laxative!), magnesium citrate, and now magnesium malate as it was on sale this month. . Guest guest
The oxide is the one a lot of people don't like. Try mag citrate. you can also use mag carbonate for the carbonate qualities which will also give you some mag. I use some supps mixed with magnesium as a buffer. For example, magnesium with vit C, or with taurate. marti
Guest guest
i didn't understand what you said, terri. Are you talking about magnesium oxide? It was my understanding it was not easily absorbed by ASD children, but I cannot say why. Just parroting information. Guest guest
Hi Marti I never Magnesium Orotate mentioned - is this not so good? I have used this form of magnesium for years it has no taste dissolves nicely in water I was recommended it by a Naturopath type lady because it helps with the connections in the brain - she only recommended this and zinc and that was 6 years ago.
