Guest guest
I went to Whole Foods as someone suggested. I found the organic seeds there. I don't know if the one packet I bought will be useful for sprouting though. It is Early Wonder Beets and says it has early greens and considered the best beet for greens. Produces the crop quickly. I was thinking of using it in either the aerogarden or to plant in the yard. If they will grow in coir, could do that and get some greens and not all and save for a root harvest. There are 2 grams in packet for $1.79 (just my drive over). That had much larger bags of seeds that are organic and could be used for whatever, I presume. They had some sprouted seeds as well and I figured they were for cooking or chopping in something. It was interesting but I had most of the seeds I needed as I don't have a lot of space. The bigger bag, probably a pound was $12 something.  I was going to check for coir but I didn't see any and then my sugar must have dropped quite a bit as I felt shaky and went to the deli and got a couple of things and then bought a big cookie as I knew I needed to eat and get some sugar in my system. I have no idea what it was since I didn't have a meter with me. I had eaten at about 11 or 12 and it was about 5 so I shouldn't have had a problem. Maybe all the walking which I'm not used to. Didn't see a scooter until I was leaving. Got my walk in though. Wiped out when I finally got home. I sat there and ate one of my deli items as I had a spoon (no fork) in the glovebox.  I didn't feel well enough when I no longer felt shaky to go to Tooey's store which sells vitamins and supplements and veggies. It is less expensive than Whole Foods. That has to be another day. I don't usually have a problem with that so it was a surprise to feel that way. Maybe one of those spikes as I had cereal and a banana. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, April 2, 2012 6:18 PM Subject: day 1 store seeds  Black eye peas from grocery store food section - 30 min soak while getting trays ready. Guest guest
, do you mean I could sprout the seeds in the aerogarden and use it for some greens but then to remove it to plant in garden after it started to get up more than a few inches? So could try a few leaves but have to leave most of them to have the chlorophyl to grow it in the garden? I think tht is what I am hearing you say. I realize I can't grow the beets themselves as they will get bigger than the holes as well as needing soil. I could probably sprout them as I do the other sprouts and then if I still had some that got too big, I could put them in the garden. I can't remember now if it is beets that don't like to be moved around or not. I did find a list having a lot of that information. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, April 2, 2012 10:06 PM Subject: Re: day 1 store seeds  Carolyn, keep in mind that you can START root veggies in the aerogarden, or do the greens with it, but you will have to transplant them to ground or container to grow the plant. No root veggies in the aerogarden, since it grows with water rather than soil, and root veggies need soil...lots of it! Guest guest
No, what I meant is that you could start plants in that 60 hole insert that sits on top of the aerogarden, but you wouldn't want to harvest the greens and then try to plant them, since the plant needs the greens to continue to grow...plus it would be very fiddly to replant each beet...best to plant them where they will stay to grow, if you want the whole beet. I was just pointing out that you can't do any root veggies in the aerogarden.
