Guest guest
Everything I've ever read says it is not contagious. I've found the following helps me the most with oral thrush: 1) liquid grapefruit seed extract twice a day. I mix 15 drops in glass of water, stir, swish some in mouth and drink. You might want to start out with fewer drops 2) drops of oil of oregano oil as often as needed (tastes really yucky if you use it straight - I usually put a couple drops under my tongue and then swish w/water and swallow) 3) tea tree oil mixed with water and swished around in mouth. Do not swallow. Also swabbing more irritated areas with a q-tip soaked with tea tree oil. Tastes really bad too I've found the tee Tree oil to be the most effective for me. Others might have some other suggestions, but the above works well for me. Guest guest
All of these, for me anyway, just mask the thrush and do not cure it. I have had oral thrush for almost four years now. It is very mild but it is still there and will not completely go away...NO MATTER HOW MUCH FOOD I REMOVE FROM MY DIET!! I also have geographic tongue that flares up once or twice a month and always before my period!! I have read stories of it being contagious and stories of couples that have been married for years and only one spouse has it! Who knows?? I sure hope that it is not!!! Guest guest
It is sort of large spots/patches on the tongue that will be there one day and not the next. They are usually on the sides of my tongue, occasionally on the top, and don't really hurt much at all, they sting just a little. I have no idea how I got them or why I have them but they began about four years ago, I am 48. They started very slowly, then the candida problems began and I have had persistant problems ever since. ....When I did begin to notice the places on my tongue four years ago, it was always after spending the weekend with my boyfriend. I do not know if he had this, if he did, he never said and I never noticed. I do wonder about the contagous aspect!!! sue <tauttodream@...> wrote: What is a graphic tongue? Guest guest
I have had thrush for 9 years. It began when I had to start using an inhaler for asthma. The dr. said rinse after each use (my mouth that is) but it didn't stop the thrush. I have never passed it on to my husband! The only contagion I've ever heard of was between nursing mom and baby. Gentian Violet works fast- but it stains your mouth purple. This is fine for babies- I know of no adult who'd like purple teeth! When I've gotten rid of it, it was doing this, regularly: First off, brush your teeth after every meal. Leave no food or sugar in your mouth! Then I rinse with Cepacol. It is a specialty mouthwash you can usually find at a grocery store and some drug stores- NOT walmart. It is yellow and doesn't taste as bad as Listerine. Then I rinse with a mild salt solution to aid healing. After doing this at night I open a capsule of acidophilus and pour it on my tongue (it tastes like milk) and leave it there in my mouth overnight. I can usually clear up a really bad case in a few days, diet or no. I can tell when its returning (before you can see it) because I get a mild " cold coming on " kind of sore throat. If I start this again immediately, I keep it at bay. My dr. also recommended running my toothbrush through the dishwasher once a week and I always rinse it in the mouthwash. I honestly think the thrush has been in my sinuses (nothing clinical) because since I've started using the saline rinse to wash my nasal cavity and deleted added sugar from my diet- I don't have as much trouble with it. It flares up whenever I get sick, have to use an inhaler or eat sweets (not including fruit which I don't eat more than one piece of a day anyway). I feel for you- thrush is yukky! Do keep drinking lots of water, it keeps your mouth clean, and just go hyper-vigilant on the oral hygeine- esp. the Cepacol. Its worth every dime you'll spend and it is a little more expensive than run of the mill mouthwash. Unlike the other mouthwashes, it works. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Well, my thrush has been diminishing rather slowly. I have been chewing a lot of pure xylitol gum. For those in North America, you can actually by the stuff in bulk. I've also been drinking a lot of green leaf tea, consuming probiotics, and I've add a herb called Horopito from New Zealand which is supposed to help clear candida. I am trying a bunch of things.... I have overcome severe die off reactions that were happening a couple of weeks ago. I have been on the anti-candida diet for about 4 weeks. Oh yes, I have been taking some coconut oil here and there. Fighting candida takes a lot of discipline.
Guest guest
Gail, I read that thrush can be contagious. If a person has a strong immune system, though it wouldn't be a problem. For example, if you kissed a guy, and he has thrush, it doesn't mean you will get it. ly, I am doing everything I can think of to get rid of mine. I am following the diet, meditating, drinking olive tea leaf, taking probiotics, drinking a tea from New Zealand that is supposed to fight against that. If the tea does me some good, I will order some more. > > > > Is oral candidiasis (thrush) contagious? > > > > I looked in the archives & found some posts saying it is and other > > posts saying not. Guest guest
Well, I see that there's all kinds of conflicting info out there now. One place says yes, it's contagious and the next says no. It just never made sense to me that oral thrush which is an outgrowth, so-to-speak, of candida and occurs through an imbalance in our own bodies and not something we " caught " would be contagious. The only times my oral thrush comes back is when I've eaten too many carbs. I've been on the candida diet a year and have been trying to introduce some foods back into my diet. If my thrush flares up then I know I've overloaded on carbs or tried something I'm not ready for yet. To me it's been an instant indicator of what to stay away from Good luck to you. Guest guest
gail, Lets put it like this. I had thrush pretty bad for a year or two, my hubby never got it. But i beleive that i got it thru sex many moons ago with another person. He had it and so did his family. So go figure. I think if your immune system is strong, thenyou should be able to ward it off. sue ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ The fish are biting. Guest guest
OK, so you think you got it from an intimate relationship many years ago. When did you get it? Did you get it right after this relationship? Or did it show up years later? I still have trouble accepting that it's contagious. You're saying if one's partner's immune system is compromised then it might be contagious to them. But if one's immune system is compromised and they get thrush, most likely it's an outgrowth of candida which is occurring because of their own compromised immune system, or their diet, or having been on antibiotics, etc. Anyway, I just can't buy it Gail > > gail, > > Lets put it like this. Guest guest
Anne have you been tested for systemic candidiasis?? if not..you should get tested asap > > HI, I need to ask some questions about thrush..I recently had yet another cold and contracted a chest infection...at the time I did not know I had thrush in my mouth...I discovered this after three weeks as my doctor had failed to check my mouth after I initially went in to see him following the viral infection...I now think that the severity of the thrush in my mouth actually caused the cough and it was not a viral infection...my tongue was coated and my mouth was full of red spots which I thought were ulcers...having read further I now know it was the thrush...anyway, my doctor then put me on high dose amoxcyllin which I then developed vaginal thrush..went back to him and he gave me more antibiotics and also nystatin for the thrush in my mouth which was clearing up I think...my problem now is that I have been consuming live yoghurt daily to try and restore some balance to my gut...I have cut a lot of foods I used to eat, but I am finding that eating is becoming a problem as whatever I eat goes straight through me...I also would like to know if the eating of live yoghurts causes severe burning when going to the toilet...my bowels are also working overtime now, but this does not come without the burning afterwards to my skin, I presume this may be acidic, I don't know..can anyone advise me on this please, as it is extremely uncomfortable > Many thanks > Anne... > > >

Molasses is a natural fungicide so I thought why not... lol I'll be damned if after one day there isn't an 85-90% improvement in my mouth! Thank god for Jerry Baker!! So if anyone here ever has a sore mouth from a fungus give this a try. Mix 2 Tbs molasses and 1 tsp baking soda in a cup, then 4-6 times a day swish about a half a teaspoon of that mixture around in your mouth and spit it out. It seems to have done the trick and it tastes good. Also, it makes your mouth water and anyone who's on treatment knows how good it feels to have natural moisture in your mouth!! ttfn, Gayle Tim Parsons knoxville,tn 37931 865-588-2465 x107 work www.knoxville1.com --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Guest guest
This is from http://www.avert.org/aidscare.htm Candidiasis There are two main types of candidiasis: localised disease (of the mouth and throat or of the vagina) and systemic disease (of the oesophagus, and disseminated disease). The mouth and throat variant (commonly known as thrush or OPC) is believed to occur at least once in the lifetime of all HIV-infected patients. Occurence of the vaginal variant is common among healthy women and is unrelated to HIV status. While OPC is not a cause of death, it can cause oral pain and make swallowing difficult. The main symptom is creamy white legions in the mouth that can be scraped away. Oesophageal (gullet) candidiasis is a more serious condition which can cause pain in the chest that increases with swallowing. Disseminated candidiasis causes fever and symptoms in the organs affected by the disease (for example, blindness when it affects the eyes), and can be life threatening. Localised disease may be treated at first with relatively inexpensive drugs such as nystatin, miconazole or clotrimazole. Systemic candidiasis requires treatment with systemic antifungal agents such as fluconazole, ketoconazole, itraconazole or amphotericin. Jerome Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape in the new year.

Guest guest
For the past week I have been dealing with what can best be describedas a "coated tongue" and a pretty severe "loss of taste" (Food andsuch, that is. I still have great taste in fashion and homefurnishings!) Joe,I can't say whether or not you have it, but I'm glad you have an appointment with your doctor. I don't know much about your t cell counts or over all health, so I'm reticent to comment about the possibility of a problem usually seen at lower t cell levels. Many of the most panicked questions I'm asked about potential HIV infections have to do with people reporting "coating" of the tongue. It is normal to have some degree of coating of the tongue, and this normal coating should wipe off with a soft cloth or "tongue scraper," without bleeding.I'd keep my mouth clean, my teeth brushed, and see what your doctor says.JB

Your baby could not be passing candida back to you at all. Candida is not contagious. It occurs within each person's body independent of anyone or anything else. You can no more " catch " candida from someone else any more than you can " catch " their broken finger or their imbalanced nutrients. So don't worry Mom. Your baby is not re-infecting you. Guest guest
I've heard various thoughts on Xylitol. How much are you eating? I'd cut it out of your diet if you can and try Stevia sweetener instead. thrush has anyone had problems with Thrush on tongue & throat & itchy ears? It's driving me crazy and is so painful to tongue & throat. I drink kefir, coconut oil, stay on a very strict anti-candida diet...finally in so much pain (tongue), had to resort to one round of mycelex. Hope it will be the last. I also drink goats milk kefir. Any other suggestions? And also does anyone know if xylitol feeds candida. blessings, jacque

Guest guest
Once you've used the antifungals/caprylic acid and the thrush has begun to clear up, you can then swish acidopholis (be sure it has NO FOS in it) in your mouth right before bed and let it sit in there. That will rebalance the flora.
