Guest guest
I think it's unlikely to have 'thrush', without having also upset of bacteria in unseen digestive system, so although baking soda may clear up the thrush in your mouth, you should probably take something to treat whole gi system in addition. I would think all you are seeing is 'tip of iceberg'. > > > > > > What is the best thing that worked for anyone who's had thrush? I can't believe it came back. Guest guest
Hi Shelle, I have taken fluconazole since 1996 not necessarily for thrush. My doc gives me 30 day supply and I take as needed. I usually do 2 days then stop for a week then 2 days then maybe it will only be a week but I did do a week or more when I first started. Sounds like you also need nystatin liquid to soothe and kill bad stomach fungus. Right now I am also taking nystatin. Make sure you also take lots of acidophilis in between to replace the good bugs. I also take glutamine, Aloe vera and slippery elm these soothe the gut and prevent leaky gut which is when the gut becomes so transparent from irritation and lack of good bugs that food normally contained leeches into the body cavity. You can look up leaky gut on google. Good luck Cooky From: rheumatic [mailto:rheumatic ] On Behalf Of shelleinkc Sent: Wednesday, August 18, 2010 10:23 AM rheumatic Subject: rheumatic Thrush I'm interested in finding others who have used fluconazole to treat a thrush infection and what their dosage is. I have a pretty severe case (extrememly painful, eating is very difficult), and my prescription is for 1-150mg tablet day one, and another 150mg tablet 1 week later. Various online literature I've found is saying daily dosages for adult thrush for 5 days all the way up to 2 weeks+ (mayoclinic.com says dosage is 200mg day 1 and 100 mg daily for at least 2 weeks). Your experience with dosage and effective ways to avoid getting this again will be very much appreciated! Thank you, Shelle
Guest guest
Just thought I would chime in here. I get thrush about every 10-11 months for the past 3 yrs & I agree eating is soooo painful !! My Dr gives me a script for 'Nilstat' drops & take Amoxil for 5-8 days which shifts it .. the nilstat drops are 3-4 drops on the tongue & swish it around in your mouth for as long as you can (which for me is instant relief) before you swallow it, within 24 hrs of starting the amoxil 500mg twice a day it is really starting to make a difference & I can eat again. Sorry hear you are in pain, mouth ulsers are really the pits aren't they! Maz > > I'm interested in finding others who have used fluconazole to treat a thrush infection and what their dosage is. Guest guest
Thank you Maz and Cooky. I really appreciate your input. I know you both offer help to a whole lot of folks via this group and you probably don't realize how many are helped just by reading the messages. From a " user " who typically just reads the messages -- your kindness and knowledge is helping a lot of people and very much appreciated! Thanks again! Guest guest
In case it's helpful to anyone, using the prescription my doctor wrote (which provided plenty of refills), I took one tablet of 150mg fluconazole daily for 8 days to cure thrush. The day after I stopped I didn't notice any problems, but the next day I felt it returning, and the next day after that (today), it's obviously coming back and pretty rapidly. Talked to my doc and I'm going to take it daily for another 1 week and possibly 2. I'm thinking that if taking fluconazole only with a pretty severe case of thrush, taking it for " at least 2 weeks " as the Mayo website listed is what it's going to require, at least in my case. Next time I'll ask about Amoxil and definitely ask him to include the Nilstat/nystatin drops -- those sound heavenly right about now! I originally decided to take a break from my Minocin for a week while I got rid of this, but now wondering if it really matters and would hate to have my RA symptoms worsten in the meantime. Any input on that would be great. Thanks again to all of you out there who help so many! Shelle
Guest guest
Hi Shelle, Ta for the update but sorry to hear that you weren't on the meds long enough .. from one who gets it in the mouth complete with ulsers under the tongue as well as on top I know how painful it is even without trying to eat, I can certainly recommend the drops .. it's like an instant relief, it doesn't take away the pain completely but is about 1-10th of where it was before the drops & they are used whenever you feel you need without any repercussions; when it first happened to me I had left it too long before going to the Dr so my mouth was in a very painful tender state - back then I remember I used put 3-4 drops (or 1/2-1 full dropper) in every 1/2 hrs until it got under control, which was about 1/2 day, since then I know when the first ulcer arrives what I am in for so I head off to the Dr straight away so I can catch it early. As an aside, you would have built up some brownie points with the mino you have been on anyway so a few days off the mino shouldn't make all that much difference. Good luck with it all, Maz ________________________________ From: Shelle <shelle@...> rheumatic Sent: Fri, 27 August, 2010 12:53:55 AM Subject: rheumatic Re: Thrush  In case it's helpful to anyone, using the prescription my doctor wrote (which provided plenty of refills), I took one tablet of 150mg fluconazole daily for 8 days to cure thrush. Guest guest
I have not been here in a while but seems I have thrush and can't figure out why. I did use Sinusbuster earlier this year and wonder if that triggered it or Ponaris which is used in the nose to help dry sinuses and use Simply Saline also and non-petroleum ointment. I have used peroxide and vinegar as gargles and also himalayan salt. I just wonder if it is a toothpaste I used or commercial gargle that caused it or what. Not everyday I look at my throat but I would think I would have had this years back in my toxic house at the time. I take acidolphilus, olive leaf and chlorophyl and much more. I want this stuff out of my throat. It is on the back of tongue and on the left tonsil I have seen since May and not sure how long before that. Guest guest
You would't be gettting thrush from the environment, although candida can be in the air, but candida is always an inhabitant of your body. Your cleaning of you mouth and throat maybe too harsh, that would kill off beneficial bacteria and aide the developement of thrush in your mouth. After cleaning it so well, put a probiotic of yogurt in your mouth and hold it there, then swallow. I will get thrush after using Listerine, which I don't use anymore. > > I have not been here in a while but seems I have thrush and can't figure out why.
