Guest guest
I had on and off pain on the eardrum, eustachain tubes, etc for nearly 3 years. Drs thought I may have to get tubes in my eardrums to release the pressure (and get a culture). Both fluconazole and itraconazole did not fix the problem. 48h after starting voriconazole it went away and hasnt reappeared yet, 10 days later. I still have 20 days @ 200mg BID, with one month refill possible. Also my AST liver enzyme went down to normal - after being constantly elevated for that long. Needless to say I'm very excited about this - it looks like I caught a fungal infection almost 3 years ago by sleeping with my face directly on a (moldy?) carpet. I'm thinking of trying posiconazole and caspofungin as well. I know my insurance will start to complain - especially that I'm starting IV abx for lyme. voriconazole is 2700$/month at costco. Thankfully my insurance covered most of it. Thanks to my awesome hollistic Dr who give me the drugs I want. Just wanted to give a " testimonial " . Of course I have no financial ties to Pfizer or any other Big Pharma compagnies.
Guest guest
if you were to bet on which fungus was causing the infection, perhaps using http://www.mediafire.com/?iwctvolx4vs97gr Aureobasidium pullulans 6900 spore equivalent/mg of dust Fusarium solani 1400 Cladosporium cladosporioides 1 410 Wallemia sebi 110 Cladosporium herbarum 94 Stachybotrys chartarum 70 Cladosporium cladosporioides 2 54 Cladosporium sphaerospermum 54 Epicoccum nigrum 53 etc Total: 9,294 what would you bet on? Guest guest
I'm gonna place my bet on Fusarium solani. Itraconazole (and of course fluconazole) appear to have negligible activity against Fusarium species. In fact most of these species are even moderately susceptible or resistant to amphotericin B. However voriconazole is mostly effective. Specifically for Fusarium solani, in http://aac.asm.org/cgi/content/short/49/3/945 their multi-drug resistant fusarium solani species was not affected by neither amphotericin B nor voriconazole, however their normal fusarium solani species was taken care of by both amphotericin B and voriconazole. Guest guest
did you test positive on a culture for fusarium in your nasal/ear fluids or just try the voriconizole and it helped? thanks, sue >I'm gonna place my bet on Fusarium solani. > >Itraconazole (and of course fluconazole) appear to have negligible >activity against Fusarium species. Guest guest
Jeanine I did have some ringing and humming but nothing out of control. Sue isnt clear from my post that I did not get a positie culture?? In fact 2-3 weeks ago the pain was terrible (just before I start the voriconazole) and my university's Drs said the eardrum looked like it was about to burst. Then wanted me to go see an otolaryngologist to put tubes in my ears and hence get a culture. I refused because sometimes it causes hearing loss. Instead I convinced another dr to prescribe voriconazole (without mentionning my ear infection!).
