Guest guest
Actually, when you're very ill as I have been and have significant neurological issues, a simple search of the list archives can be very difficult to do. Also, 's search function isn't the best and makes digging for specific information pretty tricky most times. Other groups I'm on have put together some basic info in the group list files and these are a very valuable way of getting important, basic info easily into the hands/minds of new members. It helps to cut down on the amount of repetitive newbie questions, too. Guest guest
Yep.. the lack of compassion and empathy is astounding for folks who have been through or are going through the same thing. Common sense.. a list will be helpful unless you are ok with being patient answering the same questions over and over without a helpful reference or you would like to close the group to new members. Robin , there were many here that tried to help you and give you advice and help stear you in the right direction. I dont thinks it's fare at all for you to now be saying this. maybe you should take some time to read the posts from the last 2 days. you need to remember that we are sick too and we dont even have to be here tring to help people if we dont want to. sorry, but it seems that to a point you are running around in circles at about 50 miles a hour and your not takeing the time to really consider the many answers you have been given. I hate to be the one to break it to you but getting compassion and empathy is not near as important as getting information you need to help you through this. maybe you are exspecting more than people can offer. Guest guest
Jeanine, I was not referring to you unless you were one of the folks CAPPING people for asking the same questions " over and over. " Info would be nice. CAPPING people for asking questions and not understanding is not nice and is not info. The group is dysfuncational. The dynamics are screwy. I think you are doing the best you can under the circumstances.. whatever they are.. Guest guest
search function has not been working well. You are correct. This group is usually okay with repeating the same thing. I think it was just a certain subject that has come up repeatedy more than usual and the argument over something else here that has made some people a little cranky and it is very unusual for this group. Please excuse. We really don't mind saying these things over again. It was really more meant for people who have been here awhile and still asked the same thing such as myself talking about killing mold and I've been in group for years but statement I made was misinterpreted I think. > > Yep.. the lack of compassion and empathy is astounding for folks who have been through or are going through the same thing. > > Common sense.. a list will be helpful unless you are ok with being patient answering the same questions over and over without a helpful reference or you would like to close the group to new members. > > > Robin > >
Guest guest
Thanks, Barb. that makes sense. The archives are a mess partially because we are creating such long threads. But archive searching is laborious no matter. Guest guest
Im part of this group and take offense to your remark that it's dysfunctional. The majority of the people here are sick and arent thinking with a clear head and for you to come onto this group and issue a blanket statement like that is appalling. The moderators of this group work extremely hard to make this site as informative as possible but yet you come here after a short period of time and criticize their work. If your unhappy with this group and the moderators that run it I strongly suggest you create your own Group which would give you complete control over how functional the site is. You may find this link very useful. start > > Jeanine, > The group is dysfuncational. The dynamics are screwy. Guest guest
Robin, this group is the best in my opinion, the thing is , sometimes it gets overloaded with posts. I've been here sence 2006. I looked at other groups, not much to offer there. this is the group where you are going to get the best information, in my opinion, take that as you will. I dont think anyone was makeing comments about any newbee personally, someone sujested that we make some kind of list so we dont have to keep addressing the same questions over and over again. we do pretty much that with each newbe that comes here. it does get very old to go over the same issues on keeping belongings, cross contamination, leaveing, not leaving, ect. see what I'm saying? and have the time newbees dont have the hang of how the group functions, dont read other posts that may be addressing the same question they are asking. now you get a lot of posts coming in and it's gets confuseing even for us. or for me anyway and I'm sure some others. like I said, I do the best I can, thats all I can do. thats all anyone can really exspect out of anyone, and that veries of each person. the only other thing I can tell you is that if you dont like that group, you can go to another group, your choise. this group usually runs very well. > > Jeanine, > > I was not referring to you unless you were one of the folks CAPPING people for asking the same questions " over and over. Guest guest
Amen. The group at large has been a massive benefit to many of us. Compassion and patience with one another has far outweighed any misunderstandings. Most people on the list have time and time again gone out of their way to extensively guide people through various crises. KC, Barb, Sharon, Carl, Dr. T, Jeff, Jeanine, and the list of super people here goes on and on. I've not been privy to all the recent upsets, but whatever the are they are not the norm. Robin, no doubt you walked into the middle of whatever was going on, but really it is not fair to blanketly deride the list which comprises some amazing people-- many of whom slave over extensive replies and new info from a sick-bed a tent in the desert and physical conditions and places that defy the imagination. Our moderators K.C. and most recently Barb are working hard constantly to keep the list going for no money and it is a good amount of time. Both have made themselves available to me offlist at times above and beyond the call. Here and there to see if I was ok. And I know I'm not alone there at all. I'm sure that whatever was said to you to make you feel this way must have felt very hurtful. I am sorry for that. But please don't fan the flames by taking a bad moment and making the list, which is all comprised of human beings like you, a dysfunctional group. Not fair at all, it only serves to keep the upset energized and does not solve anything. Be well,Sam Im part of this group and take offense to your remark that it's dysfunctional. ... > The group is dysfuncational. Guest guest
When I read the conflict-laden and sometimes accusatory messages on the board lately, I have been seeing words that seem angry but that are really, in my opinion, more likely words laced with fear, despair, and frustration--and directed not at the recipient of the message but at the situation in which we find ourselves.  I know that as a mental health therapist, I notice my own behaviors and conversations and now notice those days during which I'm over-reactive and more emotional than others. Maybe we could institute our own set of norms and given the nature of our respective illnesses, we can provide membership " passes " or diagnostic " excuses " for a person's anger or statements that seem personal and out of proportion to the subject at hand. I can relate; our lives have been " occupied, " as it were, but an enemy that changes its tactics and form at will, it seems.  We're all in pain of one kind or another, and it's much easier to " take it out on " others who have lent a sympathetic ear than on the insurers or employers or policies that seem to posses more stamina and power than we currently have. It's much more convenient to vent on a safe, human target than on the true cause of our pain, whether that origin be a disabling tick bite, a repeated exposure, or an illness that sits at the core of our health challenges.  What do you all think, my fellow SBS folks?? Maybe have a membership " pass " that we can post after we recognize that our previous comments have been reactive, personal, and unhelpful.  This is a legitimate symptom and, as a mental health practitioner, one I see as overlooked in our whole discussion. I can see relationships and partnerships severed due to the disproportionate, emotional symptoms that accompany these particular illnesses. I know that I am not the patient, tolerant person I once was and must guard against my own emotional reactions to situations. Stress aggravates my symptoms, as well. Just learning through this... Although it's not discussed much, I can't be the only one who is way angrier and more reactive/emotional than ever before in my 50-plus years.  If there is  anyone who should lend understanding and empathy for these affective/emotional/cognitive symptoms, it should be us, eh? Just a thought....again, just a " newbie " sharing insights and questions as they arise. sally ________________________________ From: Tug <tug_slug@...> Sent: Fri, August 20, 2010 7:28:07 AM Subject: [] Re: Listing of facts for new members  Im part of this group and take offense to your remark that it's dysfunctional. Guest guest
Sally BRAVO!!! Very well said and I think you are right on the mark. We all hate the conflict but it does happen every now and then. It's a fact of life, but we do try to limit it, so everyone can see both sides of the story. This issue is very political no matter how you look at it. Many of us have been working very hard for at least the last ten years to bring this to light so our medical community will learn how to recognize and diagnose these illnesses properly so there patients can be treated correctly in a timely manner. From what I have learned, is stress activates and heightens your symptoms and releases the toxins in your system. I'm still looking for that stress free world. But Sally you are correct with what you had stated in your post. Sorry folks but sometimes this is what it takes to move the science forward. Guest guest
KC, I read the post and couldnt agree more. How so very well put Sally. KC, A stress free world might stress me out. (NOT)... Guest guest
Very understanding and patient of you Sally. I think we need to keep trying though to take a deep breath and try anyway, to not take it out on each other, as hard as that may be, but when others fail to do this, this is a good attitude to take. > > When I read the conflict-laden and sometimes accusatory messages on the board > lately, I have been seeing words that seem angry but that are really, in my > opinion, more likely words laced with fear, despair, and frustration--and > directed not at the recipient of the message but at the situation in which we > find ourselves.  I know that as a mental health therapist, I notice my own > behaviors and conversations and now notice those days during which I'm > over-reactive and more emotional than others. > >
Guest guest
Tug, I dont appreciate coming into a group needing help, bewildered, overwhelmed, scared to death.. then angry, impatient people blasting back that they are tired of the same questions over and over again. That is not healthy or helpful. The dynamics did get dysfunctional. Thats what I saw of the group.. two separate battles raredup at the same time: one seemingly against new comers asking the " same questions over and over " that is was making others sick and tired and yadayada. quite unwelcoming and intimidating.. then the political fiasco that lead to two major contributors to this list and community leavig. So thats what I experienced and witnessed. Im grateful these dynamics do not represent the entire group. I dont need to discuss further. I apologize my statement hurt you and others. At the same time, this is what I experienced when I walked into the room. Robin > > > > Jeanine, > > > The group is dysfuncational. The dynamics are screwy.
