I'm butting in on the beet seeds.....we use the same ones that we use in our big

garden.

Lucy - where are you getting beet seeds? I'm not really finding any sprouting

seeds; are you using regular beet (garden) seeds?

The beets and popcorn require soil. I use a variety of containers, but my

favorite is the square one. I poke holes in the lid, place STG mat and seeds,

then it can drain into container. Lucy

I'm going to butt in here also. If you live near a Home Depot, they have seeds

in packages that are more seeds than standard seed packs, that are a saving per

ounce price. Haven't looked for them in other big box stores, but maybe.

There are several seeds that definitely need soil. I'm not against the mats. I

just think the soil does a better job of keeping the seeds/sprouts moist.

I'm having a problem with my current batch of popcorn. It keeps getting into my

mouth. Won't wait to be harvested.

BTW: OSH now has coir in bags that you don't have to reconstitute like you do

with bricks. I love it love it love it.

Re: pictures

For storing either sprouts or micro-greens, there is a youtube video on Salad

In A Jar, showing putting lettuce in a canning jar, using a vacuum sealer and

storing in the refrigerator.

. This

works for sprouts and micro-greens also, but micro-greens I just let keep

growing and keep trimming. When I think the sprouts are dry, I follow ew's hint

and wrap them in a towel for a couple of hours to get them really dry before

putting them in a jar. I can make a bigger variety of sprouts or micro-greens

and they stay good for a week in the frig.

According to sproutpeople instructions, beets and popcorn need soil. I asked if

anyone had tried them without soil, but received no reply. For micro-green

height, I just start cutting some when they develop leaves and keep cutting more

each day. My fenugreek is about 2 " now, but the mustard is much shorter. Lucy

They also have the loose coir at my hydroponic store.....and I live in a dinky

little town.  I'll bet they have it around.

EW;

What is OSH and where can I get reconstituted Coir around my neighborhood? If

this is even possible?

I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I just went to their site to find a store near you and did not know until this

very moment that they are only in California.

OSH is a big box home improvement store that is owned by Sears.

I'll do some research for you.

I loved the salad in a jar idea.  Can only keep them for a week though and it

was for salads.  Could do a salad for every day.  I got the setup so I can do

that.  Need a place to store it but haven't put together the cabinet for the

sunroom.  Said to put cabbage on the bottom as it is tough and to put the

lettuces on top as they are tender.  I sure know ones in the AG are tender.  I

would think the sprouts are too.  Since I got on here I have seen so many

things on vegan dishes and all veggie dishes and I am collecting a number of

recipes I would like to try.  My salads are getting more interesting.  I

still  haven't grown any quinoa or cooked any yet.  That is a goal for me.

Went to a Thai-Chinese place tonight and had a lovely dinner with brown rice and

veggies and chicken.  Had broccoli, carrots stamped out like flowers, cabbage

p;ieces, green pea shoots, baby corn, a wonderful sauce.  Some green and red

peppers.  The little flat pieces of chicken.  I wonder how they get it that

flat?  Must pound it.  I had only a teensy bit left over to bring home and no

brown rice left.  I finished up with pistachio icecream.  Had some red sauce

around the saucer under the dessert stemware and it had white hearts in cream or

something all around that on the red.  I would like to learn to do that.  Was

very filled with pistachio nuts.  dMy husband didn't feel well.  he got duck

and it was rich so he packed most of his dinner up and went to the car and I

leisurely ate my dinner anyway.  Then went to Dollar General.  Was pleased

with what I found there.  May only hold up one season but I can get things

planted.

around.
