Mold prevention:

Good ol borax covers the entire floor with a grating over that & towels, fabric

etc. over that

Since it's still packed I ran an Eva Dry & heater in it all winter. Learned my

lesson a long time ago about turning on a space heater AFTER it gets cold -big

time condensation.

Selective use of A/C & dehumidifier

I try not to shop when it rains so that I don't let rain in when I load

groceries. I'm sooo careful if I have to - like buy less so I get in with the

shopping on my lap...a feat !

Discovered that I need to keep the shade that covers the sun roof opened in

rainy season or condensation forms between the roof & ceiling & drips down. Talk

about panic !

MCS precautions

Much of my shopping goes in the Thule on my roof. Groceries go on the passenger

side front floor or on a 5 gallon bucket behind the front seat. If I'm buying

something big I bring a big bag to put it in. Costco's Kirkland bags (blk w/ red

tie) & those white Demo Bags are the least stinky.

Every seat has a towel on it & I remove the driver's seat towel & air it out

after going shopping.

In winter I wear a thin nylon raincoat over my clothes & depending how stinky I

get I either put it on the roof in a basket or lift the back of it up to my

shoulders before getting in.

I leave the doors opened after shopping (only in summer) to air it out.

A few days lately I put nylon fabric in the windows with magnets (with no spaces

for bugs to get in) to air it out since I left it to warm in the sun. It holds

the heat long into the night when packed solid. It's a very well insulated

vehicle too.

Misc dust prevention

A fitted sheet stretches across the back of the front seats

I made a plastic cover with slits for the controls between the front seats & a

hand towel is over that - it would be full of crud in no time & hard to clean.

I take my shoes off & put them as close to under the seat as possible & drive

barefoot- a hand towel is under the pedals since it's easier to wash than the

whole enchilada. When I sleep in it I get in from the driver's seat so that I

have somewhere for my shoes.(The rubber mats are 20 yrs old) The front floor is

the last place my feet hit before climbing into bed.

I'm a nervous wreck when it goes in for repairs but I have a scent-free &

understanding mechanic. I wish I knew about emergency blankets sooner- I had no

room for the type of protection the seat would need from a smelly mechanic. I

always had peroxide, vinegar & vodka in spray bottles for the aftermath & my

seat covering went on the roof in the basket until I could wash it when I was on

the road.

Paper tape covers the dashboard vents - nifty way to avoid ever having to clean

them for an hour with a Q Tip again.

Sometimes I wonder if the mental overload I'm always in is at least in part due

to all the hoops I jump through to stay safe & always be prepared for what COULD

happen.
