There is sufficient evidence in the medical literature that the paranasal sinuses are the point of entry into the brain (orbit, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, pituitary area). Although invasion of brain is rare, it does occur in immune competent individuals. Also, use of corticosteroids for 2 weeks or more increases the risk of fungal infections of the lungs and probably the cranial cavity and its contents.
