Guest guest
no financial interest - wondering if anyone has tried or knows anything about these Odorox machines? _Click here: Odorox Air Technologies | New York & New Jersey's Official Hydroxyl Generator Distributor_ (http://www.odoroxair.com/index.html) Also - has anyone actually had success using Mystical? Guest guest
Jill, Fortunately, the website is wrong about the lifetime of hydroxyl radical in the air because this moiety when it reacts with cellular components produces free radicals capable of destroying living tissues. The radical lifetime of about " one second " is quoted from an article discussing the upper atmosphere where there are few molecules and molecular collisions. On Earth's surface, luckily the lifetime of this dangerous radical is a small fraction of a second. The lifetime in a living cell is less than a billionth of a second. (The chemistry paragraph on the website <http://www.odoroxair.com/Hydroxyls.html> is full of errors.) As you all know, there are cellular mechanisms designed to destroy free radicals to protect cells. This is one reason why there is so much interest in antioxidants. Why introduce an " oxidant " into your life? Furthermore, it is probable that the unit really uses ozone rather than hydroxyyl radicals, since ozone is produced by the action of UV on oxygen in the air. Also, see: <http://www.therestorationforum.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=9962 & sid=405cb9315c37\ 533578efe2d35d381016>. If the air is dry, there is little water and therefore very little hydroxyl radical produced; probably mostly ozone is formed (which we know eliminates many odors very effectively but must not be inhaled). If this unit becomes popular, it will generate the same controversy that ozone does. Neither hydroxyl radicals nor ozone are " healthy " despite their " cleansing " nature in the air. In the testimonials and case studies, you can just substitute the word " ozone " for for the cleansing effect of " hydroxyl radical. " Sorry to introduce the word " ozone " and I hope this ends the discussion of this " new technology.
