Guest guest
thanks, but we don't have months to offgas anything, we will have an apartment inspected tomorrow and if a " go " will move in this coming weekend, I will probably move several mattresses from our house, wash the dust mite covers first and put them back on, and use those until I can order and get brand new organic futons.........we are not going to sleep on the hard floor...especially my sick son with his every ache and pain... sue >Hi, >I am extremely chemically sensitive & to the surprise of those like me I >slept on an inflatable mattress. Guest guest
There might be a way to minimize off-gas of blow up mattesses. I've never done this with a blow up mattress, but I have had good luck using carbon fabric material and blankets to help reduce smells. I don't have the expertise to say that it officially reduced chemical off-gassing. But it seemed to help me when I wrapped a mattress in carbon blankets and covered them all in a hypoallergenic mattress cover. Or maybe does some you know have an old inflatable you can borrow or buy? Guest guest
I'd be afraid of anything with soybeans since most of them are washed in toxic hexane. Barth www.presenting.net/sbs/sbs.html SUBMIT YOUR DOCTOR: www.presenting.net/sbs/molddoctors.html --- bbw> At a fabric store, you can get 2 or 4 inch foam rubber sheets that are bed size, and put sleeping bags on them. Joanne Fabrics now has green colored ones that are made of soybeans. Not sure bbw> how motivated you are to avoid moving your bed or if this would be better or not. I bought some for a project. It has SOME odor but you have to put your nose right in it to smell it. bbw> >> >> Hi Sue, >> >> Could you get inflatable camping pads as a temporary measure? Thermarest makes some really comfy thick ones that aren't too pricey and you should be able to buy them locally. They may have a >> faint new smell but nothing like the inflatable mattressess. Guest guest
Could you please explain what you mean by off gases? from matresses? Do you mean with black mold, and asper, and penicilium? I am positive in my house for 9 things the other is floral related it says hyphal---- I could've sworn I smelt gas the other day but the burners were off? Also can the toxin combination affect a gas stove in how it functions? ________________________________ From: Sam <yaddayadda53@...> Sent: Tue, July 6, 2010 1:44:39 PM Subject: Re: [] Re: Mattresses & cross contamination risks  There might be a way to minimize off-gas of blow up mattesses. Guest guest
Donna, I was referring to the earlier post that had to do with inflatable " blow-up " mattresses that are made out of synthetic materials that have an chemical odor to them and tend to off-gas the chemicals they are made from. Guest guest
We had a building biology consultant come check out a prospective rental unit for us today and he agrees that it is as good as we are going to find so we will pursue it....it was interesting, he looked for water intrusion (none, the building is just 6 months old), emf levels--very low, at levels that people strive for--but not perfect, some hot spots that could be addressed w/a little shielding, and very slight new chemical offgassing from new building materials that are mostly sustainable/non or low toxic, he recommended opening the windows, hepa filters, and bags of activated charcoal, zeolite and potassium pergamate (sp?), but really the chemical offgassing is very minimal, a small price to pay for knowing it is mold-safe... He also referred us to a mold remediator who may be able to help us w/ our old house but who also does cleaning of possessions, apparently there is a protocol where they use commercial hepa vacuum, going over furniture etc. 3 times from different directions, I am eager for a new day to come so I can call and learn more, would be nice to salvage some possessions safely. thanks to all for mattress advice. thermarests are a good idea, not TOO expensive, pretty comfortable, not too bad smelling from the outset and can use for camping, etc.---of course wish we could just use the 4 thermarests we already have at home... sue v. Guest guest
TY Sam for answering so quickly. Right now I feel like this is really the only place I can talk to people and they understand what I am going through. I really have a big battle ahead of me as I still have to get a dr and lawyer and I don't trust that the health plan dr or a state doctor will even understand what SBS is. I guess we'll be finding out soon. After living in here for 4 1/2 years of slowly inhaling this I am frustrated and I am so upset iot kinda probably is comparable to hormone rage LOL It's driving me crazy and my friends are not really understanding and I've even thought about just not talking to anyone anymore cuz I can't say what I mean or I forget things even if i have a list or i get up to go to the bathrom and i wake up hours later and I am so tired of being accusswed of of misusuing my meds cuz I know in my heart that isn't what is causing me to do all these weird things. I've been a chronic pain patient for 12 years so why would I all of a sudden start fainting etc It is very scary to be inside a body and know the truth but now the people I need to hear this like a judge I can't find (good lawyer) anyone to help me cuz I am on ssdi and I don't have $3,500 to even put down or  i am going to just have to start doing a ton of paperwork and take it to whomever to get my son back home. I am so sad and very upset and I need some certain people. My pain level is higher than norrmal and omgosh yesterday it was senior day so i went to the store for my self and then back to go for my friend and I was so wound up from all of the actual physical activity I'm finally so tired I want to fall asleep right here on the keybopard. Goodnite all:0) Going to take a very short nap I have too many things to do and hope you all have a great day! Thank you for your kindness to help others out whomever formed this group is a very special person. Guest guest
Also, most of them are genetically modified soybeans....courtesy of Monsanto. I'd stay away.
