Guest guest
Can you say more about how mold was confirmed? Is it visible? Can you smell it? Or is it only from testing? If from testing then the results may or may not be true or accurate. Carl Grimes Healthy Habitats LLC ----- Hi. I am new to the group. Guest guest
Sheila, That's eight months of dampness. It only takes a few days for the mold AND bacteria to begin growing and amplifying at a faster rate. This is no longer just a water damage problem or a mold problem but a " filth " problem. I'm glad testing confirmed mold because most mold tests have errors on the side of not finding mold growth. Also, insurance companies usually interpret all but the most obvious results as " not a problem " or " inconclusive. " Because lyme is, and mold often is, a biological toxin your body may be receiving a double exposure. You can stop one but the other keeps you ill. You can stop both and most quickly recover. But if you don't then you need Ritchie Shoemaker's book Mold Warriors or go to his Web site http://www.chronicneurotoxins.com Take the VCS test (about $15) and if you meet the screening criteria then you will know why you don't recover from either and will need medical intervention in addition to repair and remediation of the house. To stop the exposure to the mold and other " filth " from the long term dampness you need to stop the water. Then remove damaged materials or those with visible growth. Remove other mold growth and the settled spores. Usually if the mold is removed the rest of the components of the " filth " is removed also. Find a company who is familiar with and has successfully complied with the ANSI-IICRC S520 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Mold Remediation. Because you are having health effects from the moisture, mold, filth, etc, the clearance criteria for verifiying the job is successfully complete must include any health effects and complaints caused or made worse by the situation. (But reactions not caused by it won't go away). Therefore, do not rely solely on a mold test to determine the job is done. Mold tests only find mold spores and not the other half dozen components of mold also causing problems. A mold test won't find the bacteria which grows along with the mold. A mold test won't find an odor if the odor persists. If the remediator or adjustor can't smell it that is irrelevant if you can. A final mold test may help but it isn't definitive.
