Guest guest
Most tubing used for oxygen delivery is Tygon brand or similar. It is polyvinyl chloride (PVC) made soft and flexible with the plasticizer di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate. When you carry an oxygen tank, you use a few feet of tubing. On a home concentrator, you are often tethered to the concentrator with 20 feet or more of tubing so you can move around the house. The longer the tubing, the more phthalate exposure. The exposure is high with brand new tubing, and again when the tubing is very old and its stabilizers break down. If you are sensitive to phthalate, you can possibly find a non-PVC tubing free of phthalates, but it will probably not be as flexible or easy to use. I have a couple Questions If I May, 1st About Oxygen Therapy,2nd Ant Posted by: " nne " Roxygardens@... roxygardens Date: Sat Jan 15, 2011 2:26 pm ((PST)) As for the Oxygen question I mentioned before in a previous post that I suffer from chronic face and head pain. My current Intergrative doc and I thought I should try some oxygen therapy at night low dose throughtout the night. Company I rented from said it would be much to much $$ unless I rented a ox concentrator so I did. It seemed to help somewhat but not completely. I decided the rental was too much per month so with Chrimas $ bought an good but not tooexpensive one and read warning labels stating " Contains Phthalates " .
