How did you adopt your "triplets"? A friend of mine lost her daughter last November due to a very bad heart associated with DS. She loves special needs children and would like to adopt. She also has a son that has Cerebral Palsy.

Thanks - Beth

Hi all, I read here on occasion but seldom post. Today was our buddywalk and having 3 kids w/ Ds of course the question was raised "HOWDID YOU HAVE TRIPLETS w/ DS!??" We just laugh because of course mykids aren't triplets, they're born to 3 different sets of parents andtwo were adopted into our family. All my kids are similar in size(though they're 3 1/2 yrs between the youngest and oldest) so I dounderstand their question. Also, two of mine are girls, the third aboy so it would have had to be at least some degree fraternal. Wewere talking about the outstanding odds of fraternal triplets beingborn to a 23 yr old mother (I was 23 when I had my 2 1/2 yr old biodaughter)! Just one more reason these kiddos are one in a million!!LOL I enjoyed reading the statistics!Meredithmom to Emma (5, Ds)Kristopher (4)na (2 1/2, Ds)Micah (2, Ds)> > From: Shipley <TylerLrnaol (DOT) com>> Subject: Re: DS frequency in twins> To: Multiples-DS@ yahoogroups. com> Received: Thursday, October 23, 2008, 1:17 PM> > > > > Wow! Theinteresting thing, I have heard, is that roughly half of allspontaneously aborted fetuses have Down syndrome, so the rate ofconception is higher. (What outrages me--and I am sure most of us inthis group--is that a frequent decision to electively abort is thatthe fetus has been found to have DS. I just went on a Buddy Walk, laughing all the way with some wonderful people who had the goodfortune not to be aborted.) Now, off the soap box...> > The occurrence of fraternal twins born with Down syndrome is 100 X800, or 80,000.> > The frequency of identical twins is constant worldwide--about 1 inevery 300 births. Three

hundred times 800 equals 240,000. With about 4million births in the U.S. every year, about a dozen of them involvetwins with Down syndrome.> > You ask about the birth of fraternal twins both with DS? One hundredtimes 800 X 800 again for the second child. In the U.S., that wouldoccur about once every 16 years.> > Challenge me on this if you can find better data.> > Al Veerhoff> whose sons are> in the dozen-a-year category> > > > > > > > > > McCain or Obama?
