Guest guest
Hello Everyone! Joyce here just checking in. I'm keeping so busy with my three DS kids and two of my grandchildren. Some days I feel like I don't know which way is up and which way is down! Ha! I have so much to be thankful for and I praise God for giving me the strength each day to keep up with my heavy load. We just had 26 family members here for Thanksgiving and that was really wonderful. Three of my kids and 5 of my grandkids couldn't make it this year, but that's okay. At least everyone is healthy! Well, I hope you are all having a wonderful beginning of a Christmas Season! Take care and have just as much fun as you possibly can! Guest guest
Life is busy, as usual, here! Our Buddy Walk was postponed due to Hurricane Ike, and will take place this weekend. This will be our first, so we're looking forward to it. We're STILL working on walking. She's been crawling for almost a year now, and cruising around furniture for about 7 months. I always joke that she's the fastest crawler in Texas. She gets where she wants without walking...so why walk? I'm so ready for her to be a little more independent..and I'm tired of buying new clothes (due to her wearing the knees out). She is signing more and more. She uses "more", "all done", "eat", "hello", & "bye". She's such a joy, and is very easy going. Her twin brother on the other hand is my little pistil! He's starting to string 3 words together to make sentences and is constantly talking. In fact, I can hear him talking while laying in bed right now! Christmas this year should be a lot of fun. I can't believe my tiny 2 pound babies will turn 2 December 29th! Where has the time gone? I've attached pictures of them today, and 2 weeks old. Merry Christmas! Need a holiday helper this season? Guest guest
Happy Holidays to you too! I hope it's a very mild fibro case, Christie. They thought at one point I had that. I was in agony for weeks. My head & jaw hurt so much I couldn't sleep more than a half an hour at a time, literally. All I could do was rock myself to ease the pain. Turns out it was an internally abcessed tooth that infected into the nerve. Amazingly, 2 dentists missed it but a specialist -- oral surgeon finally detected it before they started the fibro meds. Thank God! I'll pray for 's walking and drinking from a cup as well as your fibromyalgia. xo maggie To: Multiples-DS Sent: Tuesday, December 2, 2008 7:05:33 PMSubject: Re: Check-in Day!, 12/1/2008, 12:00 am Hello, all!!! Guest guest
Hi Beth, I can’t take my 3 boys anywhere without at least 2 other adults along to follow behind them. Each adult gets a child to take care of and run after because they all go in 3 different directions. My husband and I ended up getting a fence for our back yard just so the boys could go outside and play during the day when I’m by myself. Guest guest
Everything is pretty much the same here. will be 6 next month....so hard to believe his twin, Jordan has been gone so long. I have just had an emotional few weeks personally and with my family....always around the holidays. At least everyone is healthy for the most part. is still trying to walk as much as he can...but he still crawls when it suits him. We are going to be starting transitioning for kindergarten for the next school year....which I have to say is scary. My Dad says he doesn't have the mental capacity to learn so it is cruel to mainstream him....or as he put it "have him go to normal school". I am just flabbergasted by my Dad's persistent and consistent statements about having no mental capacity. I am sick of it. I think I am the only one hearing this crap in todays world of acceptance. Lucky me!!! Anyway....it is freezing here...in the 20's....and we hate it. I still have to decorate for Christmas...and do cards...and buy presents....but haven't managed to do any of that yet. I am going to try to work on that in the next 2 weeks. Hope everyone else is doing well.  Deanna, mom to Alyssa, 15 , 13 Jarod, 8 (DS) 5 ~i~Jordan (DS) 1/20/03-2/2/03 Re: Check-in Day!, 12/1/2008, 12:00 am Hello, all!!! Guest guest
I don't know how old your guys are but at 3 1/2 my guys are all over the place wherever we go. It's much easier when there's another committed adult to help coral them. For one adult -- even Mommy -- it's pretty hard or near impossible. Depending upon the event, I keep the stroller nearby to strap them in if necessary. All the moms at their school get a real kick out of watching my entry into the school each morning with the boys. They're too big to carry and they don't march like little soldiers unless I'm holding (read: got a good grip on) their hands.. Otherwise, one races for the elevator button (not good) and the other for the planters. I'm grabbing hoods or whatever I can reach just to keep them on track and heading towards the school door.... laughing all the way! Thankfully. So, no, you're not alone. We haven't attempted a theatre or play yet. They're not ready at this age. xo maggie Mom to Olivia '01 and & '05 (IDs w/ DS) To: Multiples-DS Sent: Friday, December 5, 2008 5:42:39 PMSubject: RE: Check-in Day!, 12/1/2008, 12:00 am Hi! Guest guest
That sounds like our morning routine! LOL! Landon is getting better! I was once asked for a newspaper article what my challenges are with 2 DS boys! There isn't a challenge with the DS I think it's just the challenge with twins!!! I am glad to know I am not ALONE though!! It is just what it is- people mean well but to be honest I get annoyed when they say they feel sorry for me! Guest guest
I also know the challenges of taking 3-1/2 year old twins out in public. I usually just keep both of my boys in a double stroller as is still working on walking (he can walk across the living room now!). The other night my husband had to work, so I took all 3 of my kids by myself to my daughter's Christmas Concert. I knew it would be too hard to keep the boys still and quiet, so I just walked around the gym with them in their stroller. We got to see most of the concert and we didn't really disturb anyone. My husband thinks it should be a breeze for me to take all 3 kids to an event like this, but he's only taken all 3 by himself somewhere once (to the zoo.) I'd have to agree with the one post where I don't think the challenge is so much DS, just any 3-1/2 year-old twins. Guest guest
I agree wholeheartedly. It has NOTHING to do with DS and everything to do with being two [kids] times 3 1/2! I take them everywhere but it's not easy and occasionally we have to duck out the back door. Sometimes people see us and forgive us our indiscretions b/c of the DS... Funny, though, it has nothing to do with it! And, my husband would never even suggest that taking 3 is a breeze. He's never taken all 3 anywhere. xo maggie To: Multiples-DS Sent: Monday, December 8, 2008 8:03:44 AMSubject: Re: Check-in Day!, 12/1/2008, 12:00 am I also know the challenges of taking 3-1/2 year old twins out in public. Guest guest
It's very hard for me to take both of my kids out. My twins are 6, (DS) will wander off in an instant. If you call her to come back, she'll think it's a game and will run off laughing as you chase her. My son most likely has ADHD, just not officially diagnosed yet since more testing needs to be done. If we go to an amusement park, we still use the baby stroller for , we really need to get a bigger one. Anyway, most outings require both my husband and I. Guest guest
Deanna – Hang in there, Girl. Holidays can get nut-zo!  Amazing how some parents ‘think’ they know what’s best but they are living in the dark ages! My stepmother actually said kinda the same thing years ago when the girls were still infants! Course it was unsolicited advice and I told her so. ‘’thanks but I didn’t ask… †  The man is clearly ignorant on the subject and it may not be worth trying to enlighten him, especially if he knows everything or at least way more than you… J Your kids are beautiful and awesome. I love the pic from last year. Just wrap yourself up in their love and enjoy the Christmas spirit. I hope your sweet angel Jordan visits you soon in a dream and tells you how amazing you are and how much he’s there for you in spirit…   Regards,    From: Multiples-DS [mailto:Multiples-DS ] On Behalf Of Deannalee0524@... I have just had an emotional few weeks personally and with my family....always around the holidays. At least everyone is healthy for the most part. is still trying to walk as much as he can...but he still crawls when it suits him. We are going to be starting transitioning for kindergarten for the next school year....which I have to say is scary. My Dad says he doesn't have the mental capacity to learn so it is cruel to mainstream him....or as he put it " have him go to normal school " . All is well with the boys and family. ph (T21) is pulling to stand all the time now and side stepping as well, and his twin is walking all over the place. Our next big goal for ph of course is walking and a second goal to get off the bottle. I have recently been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (bummer!) but as long as my bloodwork comes back clean, the Fibro I can manage with. Hope all is well with everyone. Guest guest
Hi – Same issue here with getting kids around. Ours are too big for a triple stroller and run in 3 different directions. The girls have an IEP goal to learn to access their school environment independently. They have an aide that assists with that. It’s a safety issue. I used to try to get them to their class too but since the other parents just dropped off their kids, I should be able to as well. So someone in school handles that now.  In the beginning, they would look down and run into walls, open every door, reach for kids as they walked by, refuse to walk on the right side, refuse to get up off the floor, be quiet, you name it… Talk about frustrating!  They’re back on the bus so someone meets them at the bus and fades out the prompts necessary to help them get to their classroom independently. They’ve come a long way.   There’s been an improvement in getting them places over the last few months. Thought I would never see it! The moms with older identical twins were right!!! Hang in there!!! Mom to Haley & Nikki, 6 ½ yr twin girls both w/DS, and , 4 ½ yr son From: Multiples-DS [mailto:Multiples-DS ] On Behalf Of twinmom625 Sent: Monday, December 08, 2008 8:04 AM To: Multiples-DS Subject: Re: Check-in Day!, 12/1/2008, 12:00 am I also know the challenges of taking 3-1/2 year old twins out in public. Guest guest
-- Very interesting. Never thought about that kind of IEP goal. I walk the boys in and have stopped clowning around with them lately b/c they take it too far and we're too late actually getting into the school. In just a few days, they're already getting better about just walking in with me only with the promise that we'll play on the way home from school. But, they get it. Honestly, at 3 1/2 I wouldn't expect them to do it independently but I guess it's something I should start aiming for already. Thanks for that info... definitely something for me to think about. xo maggie Olivia '01 and & '05 (IDs w/ DS) To: Multiples-DS Sent: Friday, December 12, 2008 3:57:17 PMSubject: RE: Re: Check-in Day!, 12/1/2008, 12:00 am Hi – Same issue here with getting kids around.
