Guest guest
Hello, I am new to micro-greening and sprouting with growth media, although I have been sprouting in jars for a while. Is the smell on baby blanket normal? Does anybody know what it is that smells so strong and bad? And more importantly what I can do against the smell and the stuff causing it? Recently I got (a lot of) baby blanket, and when I opened it I almost fainted. I aired it out in the garage for 2 weeks which did not help, then emailed Sproutpeople, they basically said it always smells, but recommended laying it out in the sun (I did for 2 days). If it is on the clothesline I can smell it from 6 feet away, and it is a very unpleasant smell, to me it smells chemically like solvent. I tried washing a little piece with soap, but I used a lot and could not even get it to foam. I grew sunflower seeds and wheat grass on it, nothing got moldy, and the greens themselves did not smell, but nobody wanted to eat them, because we don't know what's on the blanket. Any ideas other than throw it out and cut my losses? Thanks Sonja
Guest guest
Someone told me that with some peat baskets for Aerogarden that are not from Aerogarden that they may have to be washed before in water and with some peroxide and rinse very well. Wonder if the peroxide on the baby's blanket would help after it is rinsed very well. Might be worth a try before tossing it all out. I assume you are not using it more than once as it is smelly when it arrives. Good luck to you. Guest guest
HI. I know EXACTLY what you mean by the smell of the baby blanket. I said out loud " This smells exactly like an old blanket " . I thought it was just me. But I will say it does grow beautiful greens. But when I'm done, I'll be getting the sure to grow mats. I've used them quite a bit, NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. They don't smell and the greens grow nice and tall. But I had to laugh when you wrote about the smell. I said 'Oh I'm not the only one' lol Melody > > Hello, > I am new to micro-greening and sprouting with growth media, although I have been sprouting in jars for a while. > Is the smell on baby blanket normal?
