Perhaps the greatest barrier to change is the " I'll decide " factor. This resistant to change process universally robs souls of rational choice. Apparently any organism will do whatever it needs to FIRST maintain its autonomy and apparently a reposed second -- do what is profitable to its well being. As a NeoDarwinist I project that if smoking or fat burgers were related to impotency -- there'd be a real droop!! in sales. I'd even venture that if smoking or lard ass burgers led to death before procreation there'd be a drop also. And finally this story amplifies the " I'LL decide " factor -- as in metaphorical thought " dont tell me what I can and cant do!! Sometimes I think it's an expression of bravery to look into the reapers eyes and laugh -- until they do -- then we hear the bemoans ''Oh I wish etc. One of my hospital roommates had terminal emphysema and the only thing worse than the horrible raspy lung crushing cough was the laments. As if that weren't bad enough western medicine in all its anti Kavorkian wisdom was going to keep this wretched soul alive as long as possible at $5k a day. As " I'll decide " -- autonomy researchers say -- " organisms will do whatever it takes, even to their detriment, to maintain this insanity " . As many of us on the list respond, 'let them decide on their own money " . I have an email somewhere which crystalizes this whole insane scenario -- will post.
