Guest guest
I asked a few weeks ago about whole house filters but forgot to ask about whole house humidifiers. Years ago we had one of the drum type that rolled around in a pan that put some humidity into the house during the winter. We haven't used it in over 6 yrs. after researching them and finding that they probably are not very good. We always kept our very clean and never had any problems but I'm not comfortable using it. I think of bacteria and mold growing on it!!!! Does anyone use one in their home that works with the furnace and are safe to use? I looked at the Aprilaire but don't know anything about them. Thanks, Sue
Guest guest
I have the Aprilaire whole house humidifier on my furnace and it works and does not get moldy. The old furnace that was here when I got house also had an Aprilaire whole house humidifier on it but of course older model. I remember Jeff May saying I need not worry about that one. Also I believe incidentally that Jeff has the Aprilaire whole house filter on his furnace in his new place. *Not positive but believed he said that. The filter on the Aprilaire humidifier is hard and doesn't absorb the water so it doesn't stay wet. The water trickles through it and air picks up moisture out of air as it trickles through. When humidity is high enough, water stops coming through it but the air keeps coming through it, thoroughly drying it out. The first 10 years I was in house didn't know anything about it. I just turned it on and in the summer off. When I finally decided to see if it was clean inside (after joining this group), I figured out how to open it up and look at it and wha-la CLEAN after ten years of not paying any attention to it. That's good! Just some white lime deposits so I changed it out. I don't know what other choices you have. I didn't shop around since the first Aprilaire was so good. I just made sure it was basically same concept as one I had. The light right now is glowing as indication it is time to change the filter, looked in it and filter looks the same as when I put it in but I will change it anyhow. Too bad everything, esp air conditioners, aren't made this well. > > I asked a few weeks ago about whole house filters but forgot to ask about > whole house humidifiers.
