Guest guest
Thank you for forwarding me the " dying kid " story. Unfortunately, the story you sent me is a well-known hoax. I have attached an excerpt from an article on the hoax I recently read on the Internet TOURBUS. By the way, if you do not yet subscribe to TOURBUS, I strongly recommend that you do. TOURBUS is a free, semi-weekly Internet newsletter that tells you about the latest Internet sites and helps you debunk the latest Internet urban legends. I have included TOURBUS subscription information at the bottom of this message. ------------------ THE DYING KID HOAX ------------------ You have probably seen email letters stating that, in return for your forwarding an email letter to all of your friends, a certain hospital or not-for-profit organization will make a donation to research in the name of a dying child. All of these letters are cruel and sick hoaxes. So far, I have seen THREE different versions of this hoax, none of which are true. The first version says that the National Lung and Cancer Association will donate three cents towards research for each time their email is forwarded. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as the National Lung and Cancer Association. The second version says that Valley Childrens hospital in Pittsburgh has agreed to donate 7 cents to the National Diesese Society in honor of a child dying of ostriopliosis of the liver. There is no Valley Childrens hospital in Pittsburgh, there is no such think as the National Disease Society, and there is no such thing as ostriopliosis of the liver. The final version says that the American Cancer Society will make a donation of anywhere between 3 and 7 cents for every person you forward a particular email letter to. While the American Cancer Society does indeed exist, no fundraising efforts are being made by the American Cancer Society using chain letters of any kind. In fact, the American Cancer Society has issued a press release at http://www.cancer.org/chain.html explaining that this " dying child " email letter is " fraudulent. " You can find out more about the history of all of these " dying kid hoaxes " in the archives of the Mining Company's Urban Legends and Folklore site at http://urbanlegends.miningco.com/library/bljess.htm A lot of people who have redistributed the dying kid hoax letter have asked " who could it hurt? " The answer is the American Cancer Society who now is forced to redirect a significant part of its time and resources to combating this hoax. Considering the damage that this hoax is causing the American Cancer Society, if you receive the dying kid hoax letter from one of your friends, it would be a good idea if you talked that friend into making a public retraction AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. =====================[ Tourbus Rider Information ]=================== The Internet Tourbus - U.S. Library of Congress ISSN #1094-2238 Copyright 1995-98, Rankin & Crispen - All rights reserved Archives on the Web at http://www.TOURBUS.com Join Send SUBSCRIBE TOURBUS Your Name to LISTSERV@... Hopefully the illegal nature of the order will be communicated to the Senator and to other SASC members. Each SASC member was also delivered a copy of the official House Gov. Reform Comm. report recommending suspension of the program. The staffers have all the data and the ability to draw the same conclusions we have and I doubt any of the men and women on the SASC want to be party to a dishonest legislative review. The process is working, albeit slowly. Keep the faith, Major Tom " Buzz " Rempfer

Guest guest
I heard it directly from his lips the final week of his presidential campaign in San Diego, CA. He believes a moratorium should be enacted to allow all sides to contribute on this issue before more harm may come to our servicemembers. His friendship to Cohen may have been in the past, but given Cohen's record as SECDEF, many friendships may have already been broken by his republican colleagues. Amen - just visited my parents and asked my mom (who is an RN, graduated 1948 and worked pediatrics ONLY) if she was fearful when we got measles, mumps or rubella - she laughed and said 'of course not'. She said it was a normal childhood illness everyone got and did fine. My parents had had several very bad experiences with doctors this past year and so were ready to hear and realize now-a-days that they aren't gods and many are scammers. One doctor told me dad he had serious kidney and liver problems and needed more tests and meds - he was feeling fine so went to another doctor - TOTAL LIES. I asked my mom if she reported the doctor (her) and she said no. So they continue on! > >Oh well the post is long enough. Thank for letting me vent. Vent away! I had mumps.. the worst part was not being allowed to go and play! I sat by the back door with this silly rag my dad tied around my head and chin and wanted only to be able to go out and play. I am immune to measles so I must have been exposed but never showed symptoms. Chicken pox at 11 was a week of fun at home. I am not making light of these things knowing that some people have gotten much more ill with them. This was my experience. PS- I read awhile back that there was a link between mumps in women and ovarian cancer? I don't remember where or when or whether or not this was even a real study. Does anyone know of it? Showing that having had mumps reduced your risk of ovarian cancer?

Guest guest
, I just did a search of the literature re: mumps and ovarian cancer. I can't be entirely sure what's going on, because there were a number of studies which did not include abstracts, so I need to go read them. And the abstracts were at times confusing themselves. But this is what I have gotten so far: Although there were early studies showing a possible protective effect from mumps re: ovarian cancer, that is not necessarily holding up. There was some more recent evidence, if I understood the abstracts, that having no children increased your risk and to whatever extent mumps reduced reproductive lifespan (does it?), and hence your chance of having children, mumps might increase your risk of ovarian cancer. I'll try to get my hands on the actual articles fairly soon and report back what I find after that. Sandy

Guest guest
This note is considered " Off Topic " and should have been sent to -Offtopic Robynn -Owner [ ] Please Read Hi Everyone, I know this is not our usual subject matter, but it is important & I'm sure you would like to help out. Please take 3 minutes out of your life to do your part. And be sure to include other members of your household who are willing to sign. Oprah recently had a show about this atrocity and it was heartbreaking. Madhu, the government of Afghanistan, is waging a war upon women. Since the Taliban took power in 1996, women have had to wear burqua and have been beaten and stoned in public for not having the proper attire, even if this means simply not having the mesh covering in front of their eyes. One woman was beaten to death by an angry mob of fundamentalists for accidentally exposing her arm(!) while she was driving. Another was stoned to death for trying to leave the country with a man that was not a relative. Women are not allowed to work or even go out in public without a male relative; professional women such as professors, translators, doctors, lawyers, artists and writers have been forced from their jobs and restricted to their homes. Homes where a woman is present must have their windows painted so that she can never be seen by outsiders. They must wear silent shoes so that they are never heard. Women live in fear of their lives for the slightest misbehaviour. Because they cannot work, those without male relatives or husbands are either starving to death or begging in the street, even if they hold Ph.D.'s. Depression is becoming so widespread that it has reached emergency levels. There is no way in such an extreme Islamic society to know the suicide rate with certainty, but relief workers are estimating that the suicide rate among women must be extraordinarily high: those who cannot find proper medication and treatment for severe depression and would rather take their lives than live in such conditions. At one of the rare hospitals for women, a reporter found still, nearly lifeless bodies lying motionless on top of beds, wrapped in their burqua, unwilling to speak, eat, or do anything, but slowly wasting away. Others have gone mad and were seen crouched in corners, perpetually rocking or crying, most of them in fear. When what little medication that is left finally runs out, one doctor is considering leaving these women in front of the president's residence as a form of protest. It is at the point where the term " human rights violations " has become an understatement. Husbands have the power of life and death over their women relatives, especially their wives, but an angry mob has just as much right to stone or beat a woman, often to death, for exposing an inch of flesh or offending them in the slightest way. Women enjoyed relative freedom: to work, to dress generally as they wanted, and to drive and appear in public alone until only 1996. The rapidity of this transition is the main reason for the depression and suicide; Women who were once educators or doctors or simply used to basic human freedoms are now severely restricted and treated as subhuman in the name of right-wing fundamentalist Islam. It is not their tradition or 'culture', but it is alien to them, and it is extreme even for those cultures where fundamentalism is the rule. Everyone has a right to a tolerable human existence, even if they are women in a Muslim country. If we can threaten military force in Kosovo the name of human rights for the sake of ethnic Albanians, citizens of the world can certainly express peaceful outrage at the oppression, murder and injustice committed against women by the Taliban. STATEMENT: In signing this, we agree that the current treatment of women in Afghanistan is completely UNACCEPTABLE and deserves action by the United Nations and that the current situation overseas will not be tolerated. Women's Rights is not a small issue anywhere, and it is UNACCEPTABLE for women in 2000 to be treated as subhuman and as so much property. Equality and human decency is a fundamental RIGHT, not a freedom to be granted, whether one lives in Afghanistan or elsewhere. 1) Giuliana D. Guest guest
Dear Ellen, I read your post, most unfortunate for this little one, my heart goes out to any parent going through this nightmare. How old is this child, and how long since her last chemotherapy treatment? I recently sent a good friend of mine to Utah to a clinic who practices alternative therapies with good results, he has cancer of the colon and liver. Young children even do better with these therapies. If I had cancer myself or one of my children, I would not hesitate to go there, as a matter of fact I would sell every last possession to get there. I know you do not know me, but I have a heart for children and notices like these break mine. If the family has an interest in alternative therapies, please send them my way, until then will be at the top of my prayer list, as will her family, many blessings to you all, Doc and Dena 15:13 Radical and Rejected by the Establishment www.spiritualaroma.com [Moffitt] Update on Thursday June 28, 2001 > > > > Good morning > > > > Katy and I met with 's doctors yesterday afternoon at MUSC. > > > > The tumor has grown back the second time after radiation and > > chemotherapy treatment for this last year. Guest guest
Amen to the natural diet stuff. Can't go wrong there. But what about also including something called ESSIAC. My understanding is that it's some kind of combination of natural components. And what about Dr. Burzynski? I was recently reading about his cancer therapy and it sounds like it makes sense. He has supposedly had a great deal of success with it. Although the FDA limits who his pediatric patients can legally be. I believe potential pediatric patients must have undergone chemo and perhaps even surgery before they can be treated by Dr. Burzynski. Evidently the FDA wants patients to be at death's doorstep before they are allowed Burzynski's treatment. Guest guest
I don't know how old the child is, but miracles have happened when a child is put onto a natural diet. Some great videos and info on that can be found at http://www.hacres.com and http://www.drday.com. Dr. Lorraine Day overcame breast cancer and I have three of her videos that are wonderful. She was told she had no chance of survival and now goes around full time letting people know that they can get well by natural methods. Her videos on overcoming cancer, and her newest one on depression, are phenomenal. Basically those who are very sick are given large doses of fresh carrot juice, barley green juice (by the AIM company - which seems to be superior to other types) and fresh and raw fruits and vegetables. The Hallelujah Acres site also has wonderful books and materials on the subject. There is also a book called " Raw Kids " that is wonderful. It's the true story of a woman who put her 7 year old child on the diet and overcame severe learning disorders and behavioral problems. I am a firm believer, my own brother has overcome many health problems and now feels so good that he swears he will never go back to eating the way he used to. They have even put their dog on the diet who was diagnosed with cancer and now seems to be doing 100% better than he has in the past 2 years! I would highly recommend this to anyone with severe health problems. If you check it out you will find that many people who were told they were terminally ill with tumors, cancer, etc. have had full recoveries. HTH. They are in my prayers, M. Guest guest
Hello, With regards to mercury, has used DMSA in the past with amalgams in her mouth and had very interesting results (we were taking care of high mercury in her blood). Several months after using the DMSA we decided the best thing to do was have her amalgams removed. She will detox after that using a different product.
