Guest guest
Hi. No down side to growing peas in any kind of soil. I just don't use soil INSIDE my house. So Coir was a good choice. I found out there are all grades of Coir. Worse grade comes from Mexico. I just purchased a good grade of Coir. Got it in Brooklyn Indoor Outdoor Garden which is not too far from my house. It cost more than the mexican coir but i don't care. It has less sodium in it and I'll begin to use it when the heat wave passes. The one I just bought is sold by BOTANICARE, It's called Cocogro. I paid $3.99 for one brick to which I will add 40 oz or 1.25 liters and it indicates that this makes 8-9 liters of medium. The website listed on the brick of coir is www.americanagritech.com Coir comes lose, in bricks, in liners in planters. Just google COIR and you learn all about it. And I knew NOTHING about growing mediums until last year. This is still a learning experience for me. Melody

Guest guest
Ah, here is where is got interesting. I discovered that while sunnies grow just fine using the Sure To Grow Mats, the taste of the sunnies is completely different. I have to use them in a mixture. I don't like just picking them and eating the sunnies by themselves. Don't care for the Sure To Grow Mat Taste that they have. Using them in a sprout salad, well it masks the taste. However, when grown in coir, I can pick them and eat them like a snack. So from now on, when I grow sunnies, I'm using the Coir. Melody > > > > Donna, > > > > *Coir*is anatural fibre /wiki/Natural_fiber#Vegetable_fibers extracted from thehusk /wiki/Husk ofcoconut /wiki/Coconut . Technically, coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. On the pH scale, it is nuteral. It is a renewal resource. > > It mostly comes in brick form that has to be recostituted, but it can be found loose in bags. Generally the bags a large. About 2 cubic feet. The bricks will half fill a five gallon bucket when reconstituted. > > There are core mats that are used to line hanging baskets. Wheather these would work for sprouting, I don't know. > > A down side might be that you have to be careful with it. What form do you use...does it come in mat or lose? I have no experience at all with it. Guest guest
I've tried baby blanket and I'm glad I did. Grew lots of stuff on it. But the blanket smelled like an old blanket. lol So because I've tried most of the mediums, I will use the Sure to Grow Mat for my chia and my flax and the occasional brassica microgreens that I grew in the Ziplock container that I made. I shall use the Coir for Sunnies, Pea Shoots, and Popcorn Shoots. Easy as pie. lol Melody > > > > > > When looking at your video I saw one of stir fried pea sprouts and garlic. Looked much larger than I thought your pea sprouts were. Check it out and see what you think. > > >  > > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=587BCudT9fo! > > > > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > ________________________________ > > > From: Melody <eliz7212@> > > > To: mailto:sproutpeople%40yahoogroups.com > > > Sent: Tuesday, July 17, 2012 9:31 PM > > > Subject: Look at how my pea shoots are doing in the Sproutgarden > > > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > So now I know I can grow pea shoots (using any medium), in my 10 x 20 trays, in my shorter trays and now, in my Sproutgarden. > > > > > > Take a look! > > > > > > > > > > > > Mel > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
I just used the plain unpopped kernels that came in a glass conainer. It's not organic. Too pricey for me. I just wanted to see what kind of greens they produced. Lovely by the way. Melody > > Melody, what popcorn are you using for shoots? I just ordered this: http://www.azurestandard.com/shop/product/1121/ I'm looking forward to trying it. I haven't sprouted popcorn before. > > Many thanks, > :~) > > > -----Original Message----- > From: sproutpeople [mailto:sproutpeople ] On Behalf Of Melody > > I've tried baby blanket and I'm glad I did.
