Guest guest
Wow that is amazing! Surely this memory will transfer to something wonderful he will be doing with his life later on! Carolyn;o) From: Shapiro Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2012 5:41 PM To: autism-aspergers Subject: calendar calculation savant skill My son Sam is nearly sixteen. For a few months he's been telling me, "I can remember every day since I was born." I kept quizzing him "Oh yeah? Well what was your birthday party them in 1999? What was the weather like on Jun 17 2006?" And since he could never answer I assumed he meant the occasional uncanny recollection he has of route we took to horseback riding when he was four, song we sang to him when he was pre-verbal, etc. But last night at dinner DH said, what exactly do you mean by that, Sam? And he meant, he can tell you the day of the week for any date since his birth. So his siblings started testing him, (especially my math genius second son) July 10 2001! Oct. 7 2002! etc. Sam would say, "That, my friends, was a tuesday." "That, my friends, was a Monday" etc. We checked with iPhones and he didn't miss any date we threw at him. The waitresses at the restaurant and a few people from nearby tables came over to watch. He can't seem to do it prior to his birth, as he stated, but he can do it into the future.I always used to say my son didn't have any of those savant skills, but come to find out, sixteen years on, that he does. Go figure. Too bad it isn't transferable and has no connection to math ability! Darn! Just a spooky magical brain quirk.

Guest guest
Marilu Henner has the ability to remember details of every single day - what she wore, ate, saw -- like a photographic memory of days. She is neurotypical. This calendar calculation is isolated, and the people who have it are 50% autistic and 50% brain injury or other forms of brain deficits, like certain dementias. (I've been researching since we discovered it!) they say one in 10 autistics have some savant ability -- others here? Does she have aspergers?LoriSubject: Re: calendar calculation savant skillTo: autism-aspergers Date: Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 6:27 PM Actress Marilu Henner also has this ability. To: autism-aspergers Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2012 9:02:30 PMSubject: Re: calendar calculation savant skill Wow that is amazing!
