A North Buffalo police station remains shut down, and it's sparking cancer

fears.

Tests confirm the presence of mold and documents state that several

officers are suffering from some serious illnesses, causing greater concern.

The doors to the Northwest District Police Station are tied up with police

tape.

This is no crime scene, but some police officers do consider this building

a hazardous work place.

Joe Golombek is a Buffalo Councilman who represents the North District.

" One of their concerns was that there's about six or eight officers right

now that are currently suffering from cancer that are stationed here at D

district, " he stated.

Buffalo Police confirm that preliminary tests show the presence of mold in

the building.

News 4 has also obtained documents that list the officers who work in the

district.

Next to their names, the illness they have and their present condition are

shown.

Lymphoma, breast cancer and thyroid cancer are a few of them.

" They're saying right now that it appears to be a typical Buffalo mold

which is not terrible, " Golombek said.

As of now, there is no proven connection between mold in the building and

the officers' illnesses.

Just to be safe, Buffalo Police officials have temporarily closed this

building.

Officers are in the process of moving to a temporary location at Lisbon and

Cordova in the University District.

Mayor Byron Brown explained, " We do not want to take any chances with the

health and safety of our police officers, report technicians and other

personnel. "

Mayor Byron Brown said he doesn't know what kind of mold is in the

building.

Councilman Golombek said the results are expected to come in next week.

Buffalo Police told News 4 that police services for all residents and

businesses in the district will not be interrupted.

Golombek also explained, " If it is going to be more than a few weeks, I do

want them somewhere in the boundaries of D district. "
