Guest guest
Hi Anca, You and your loves are in my thoughts and prayers. I know the journey you are about to embark on and I am with you in spirit. It is great that she will be in the hospital for a few days after the surgery to keep up her fluids (through IV), administer antibiotics and allow for her to stay quiet. Wear comfy clothes (like a sweatsuit) as you will be sleeping when she sleeps if you can. Take lots of pictures before Thursday and on Thursday and right after and then each day. You will have a story to tell her… “Read to me the story about the day my mouth got fixed.” Trust me you will read this over and over. It is great too that the ENT is involved now, rather than going back in and under to fix the ears later. Ears are a really common problem with clefting. I have been meaning to update my blog with more pictures (earlier) of my twins surgeries but I haven’t done it (sorry)… my blog has them now at 16 (http://suzebee.blogspot.com). Again I am thinking of you! She was born with a cleft palate (roof of her mouth is not closed) and 2 fused fingers (index and thumb, left hand). We were told that the surgery for her cleft will take place between 12 -18 mo of age. a became the " head of the stand by list " for surgery last week and we just found out that we are going in on Thursday. The surgery is 3 and a half hours and she will be in the hospital (Sick Kids hospital in Toronto) for 4 nights (assuming that everything goes as planned). They will also have an ENT come in after the surgery is done (while she's still under) to drain any fluid in her ears and assess and put in tubes if necessary. Please think of my sweet a on Thursday. Your prayers and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. She is an amazing little girl and I love her more than words can say…. Thank you.
