Guest guest
I've read all the Harry Potter books and watched all of the movies. They're great fun and have a moral message that's lacking in a lot of modern fiction. I have a friend who is a published writer. She uses the official formulas and word uses (no more than 2 syllables, simple words, nothing to challenge the intellect) and doesn't understand why Rawlings' books are so popular since they break all the rules for writing! I think that says something about those silly rules. They're being read in some English classes and the teachers like them because they get the kids interested in reading. Wonderful idea, a lot of what passes for literature is absolutely boring and dull. H.
Guest guest
You sure nailed it on boring English classes. Too bad the titanic struggles of good v evil with real superheroes in the Bible can't be used. I was tortured in English class with BOTH The House of the Seven Gables and Grey's Elegy in spite of a plethora of really great liteeature acceptable to secular institutions. Why do they do that? Guest guest
Ann, that's a good question! I wasn't bored by a lot of it, I liked literature a lot, but some of it was deadening even to me.
