Hi Abi, my son didn't have any GI symptoms that I recognised when he was

little but there were plenty there. He had red cheeks - which can be a

sign of gluten or other intolerance. He had a distended abdomen (I

suppose I thought he had a fat tummy) and he screamed sometimes

(Ithought he was teething) and he had trouble getting to sleep (probably

due to pain or constipation). He had NORMAL bms but they weren't a

symptom of normal function. When we x rayed his bowel it was fully loaded.

ps my friend's son had none of the above symptoms yet still had GI problems

My son (12)- GP/paed/neuro etc said no problem with his bowels - maybe " toddler

diarrhoea " . Dad denied there was a problem, too.

Poo always soft and formed but he kept soiling. Local PCT NHS service said

Movicol and more and more Movicol.

He was constantly soiling.

Abdomen always pregnant-looking.

Slow motility eventually diagnosed after many years - total loading of bowel.

Improved bowels a lot with suppositories for 9 months and toileting programme.

Pregnant belly remained.

It's almost gone away with the full GAPS diet (variant of SCD).

The only signs of pain were when he was distended by the Movicol or other

laxatives - yet he had a severe problem. Used to be GFCF - don't know whether it

helped or not. Gave it up when he was 5.
