I thought Ceramic came out of the space program.  That is what they put on the

nose of the pod that came back to earth so it didn't burn up in the atmosphere

as it returned to earth.   Corning - isn't that the same as ceramic?  Maybe

I'm getting mixed up if the two are different. 

 

We got a number of new things from the space program.

I'm guessing that it's a downside to the technology that first produced

penicillin. From what I remember from my University days, an American scientist

discovered that the starchy and nutrient-rich soaking liquor from corn, called

'corn sloop liquor' was an ideal medium for growing penicillin. It was a

by-product from the production of animal feed and at that time it went down the

drains. Prior to that, they had been using milk. As it was war-time, valuable

milk was not a viable growth medium.

So, corn syrup has evolved from those starchy liquids. Some of the sensitivity

issues to this would be a continual exposure in everyday food. Some of it will

be all the enzymes and other chemicals used to break the long starch molecules

into smaller sugars.

The counter-argument from Scientists would be how we are maximising food yield

in an over-populated world reaching food production crisis point.

I guess most of us here would argue that everyone has a little space to help

counteract that by growing their own... and we really do not need

over-processed, over-packaged food in this age of greed.

I once spoke to a nutritionalist who believed that there were an awful lot of

people with sensitivity issues to corn syrup, who didn't even know.

They don't half stick some crud in our food...
