The diets that restrict your carb intake to under 25 g/day are the ones that will induce ketosis like Atkins and Protein Power. Some of the low carb diets do not restrict carbs as much and do not induce ketosis such as Sugar Busters, The Zone, Suzanne Sommers and Montignac method. I much prefer the latter methods than the hyper restrictive ones. I used to do be on the Montignac method and had very good success with it (lost 40 pounds). The best thing about the weight loss phase is that I was never counting calories. The maintenance phase was basically eating normally but never exceeding the amounts of carbs that you were supposed to (which I failed miserably at and regained 10 pounds). Hope that this can be informative.

Hi Pro Diets

Ok, here's what I've found out so far.

It appears, that the "high protein diets" that health care professionals refer to are those high protein diets that are high in animal protein, and also restrict other foods. for example, carbs are often reduced to 25g/day. And they also restrict other foods like vegetables, beans, etc. In other words the ONLY thing you eat is animal protein.

The way these diets work is this: they are SO low in carbs, that your body goes into a mode called "ketosis", because the actual calorie intake with these diets is VERY low, like less than 1000cal. In other words, you may be eating lots of animal protein, but you are actually literally starving yourself.

I am still looking but I haven't found anything yet that mentions highER protein diets that are plant based, that also allow for an at least equal amount of carbohydrates (over 100g at the very least is what is necessary for proper muscle fuel and brain fuel).

I will keep looking. when I'm done, I will give you all the links I have found. I think it will be important to post these at the tae bo site.
