Guest guest
Hi : My twins (identical boys both w/DS) didn't have IUGR, but I did give birth to them prematurely at 26.5 weeks. Sam weighed 2.7 and weighed 2.3lbs. They did have a very long NICU stay since they were so early and so small. Sam was in 16 weeks, 18 weeks. Things turned out well despite all that since they just turned 15 this past December It was a little different bringing them home separately. Sam came home first and we got into our little " routine " and when came home 2 weeks later, he adapted quite well. The hard part was being home with Sam and coordinating schedules/times to go see still in the NICU. We couldn't bring Sam back in when we went to see so it ended up one of us staying home w/Sam and one of us being with and the next day switching. Let us know how everything goes on Monday. I'll keep you and the babies in my thoughts and prayers. Judi Mom to Sam & , Identical twins, 15 > > Hello, > > As some of you may remember I am currently pregnant with twins and waiting it out with a high risk of my baby girl having down syndrome. Her risk comes from a high nuchal at 11 weeks (3.5 mm), EIF, and now at 34.3 weeks she is growth restricted. Her brother weighs 5.3lbs and she is only at 4lbs. Her cord has reduced flow. The plan is to deliver them at 36 weeks which is next Monday but they will be closely monitored before then just in case they need to come out sooner. I am so worried about my babies. I know 36 weeks is pretty good for twins but with her being so small and possibly having down syndrome I am still do worried. > > Was anyone else in a similar situation when they gave birth? What was the outcome? Did they have long NICU stays? I can't imagine only being able to bring one baby home. I live an hour from the hospital and can't imagine having to choose between which baby I will need to be with. Can anyone give me some hope? > > Thanks for your support! > > Sent from my iPhone >
Guest guest
Hi ,How exciting! Wishing you a gentle delivery. Please keep us posted on how everyone is doing. My boys were born at 37 week, 4 lb 11 oz and 6 lb 3 oz. They did not have to go to the NICU, so I can't offer any thoughts there. Prayers and hugs for your family. Guest guest
Hi , I had boy/girl twins nearly 15.5 years ago at 27 weeks gestation and I lived about 45 minutes away from the hospital. The girl was 2lbs 3oz and the boy (down syndrome) was 2lbs 6oz. She came home at 3lbs 15oz but was re-admitted a couple of times. She finally came home to stay after three months. The boy was in the hospital for five months (he was over 11 lbs when he came home). Both came home with heart monitors and I was taught how to insert an NG tube in to my son to be able to feed him. And yes, I recall too well the constant driving from home and hospital while one was home and the other was still hospitalized (plus I was breast feeding the one home and attempting to breast feed the one in the hospital and pumping for him too). Are these your first children? My twins were my first which was a lot to handle for being a parent for the first time however I guess it really was a blessing because it would have been even more difficult with other children to care for as well. Judy ( & Mike) I believe (if I recall correctly) on this listserve had identical twin boys at 26 weeks gestation (now 15 year old too). Even though your little girl is smaller than your son, I think she is a pretty decent weight; especially being a twin! Do you have family that can help out? My mom was a huge support to me when mine were young (don't know what I would have done without her). , mom to Nicala (bronchiectasis, learning disability, chronic lung disease, asthma, allergies, etc) & (down syndrome, ADHD, autism) 15, 13, and 6. Guest guest
,We had identical twin girls at 35 weeks, both with AVSD, both with DS.Even at 35 weeks, the girls did not feed well, or for long, so our girls had NG tubes from birth, and stayed in the hospital until they reached 3 weeks. This may not be the case for you, and I hope it is not, but ...My advice? If you have feeding issues, DO NOT go home before the hospital case manager gets your insurance involved in giving you home nursing support. The insurance company will do it to get you out of the hospital, but will deny it if you go home without it and fight you for a while. we had twins with feeding tubes and without a nurse we would not have made it. When the girls are on a NG tube, and are getting a feed on a pump, they must be watched so that there are no issues. So someone has to stay up all night if they get an overnight feed. Especially with twins, you need this help. Our nurses made a huge difference in our lives, and made our girls health a Nd weight gain go so well. Our primary health ins paid for it, but in PA children with DS are eligible for Medicaid, which later covered our nursing hours too.Sent from my iPad Hi , I had boy/girl twins nearly 15.5 years ago at 27 weeks gestation and I lived about 45 minutes away from the hospital. Guest guest
I had so many of those fears! I was on strict bed rest for the last 6 weeks with Teddy (DS) and ny, and delivered at exactly 35 weeks (the day they took me off bed rest). Due to Teddy's massive heart defect (complete A/V canal) I was told he might not make it - they were quite mistaken! Neither boy went to the NICU even for a minute, and Ted ended up being a whopping 5.1 lbs!! He was also the only one able to latch on from the beginning. We were able to take them both home two days later. I know this is not typical, but I wanted you to know that it can happen! Best of luck to you and your little ones!Heidi, mom to Teddy and ny (2) and Lilly (5)Sent from my iPhone Hi , oIt is normal to be worried but you have already actually passed the very dangerous period, when I got pregnant w/ triplets my doctor wanted me to go to at least 32 weeks and 3 pounds, he said from there each day and each additional bit of weight is just making it better. I was put on bed rest and it was the pits, just waiting it out. He informed me that 36 weeks was the longest that would be safe for the babies, they were born at 36 weeks weighing 5.11, 5.1 and little Zack ds at 4.1, he lost a little bit the first day or two, but they required no ICU, no special care and we all left on the third day! I will pray that all gees smoothly for your delivery and afterwards!! Been there done that, at least you have a notion about the ds, we had none, so while we all went home we were still in shock but now at almost 14 Zack is the greatest blessing we have <wlEmoticon-princess[1].png> Irene in fl jake 15 Zack ds, , and 13 From: Finelli Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2012 12:01 PM To: Multiples-DS Subject: Anyone have twins with IUGR Hello,As some of you may remember I am currently pregnant with twins and waiting it out with a high risk of my baby girl having down syndrome.
