Service dogs for children with DS

I am wondering if anybody knows of any child with DS having a service dog. We

just had our annual meeting at our DS assoc and I met a mom who shared with me

her son's (8) wonderful experience with his new service dog. It seems to be a

long process to get such a dog (about 18 mo wait list) and it ends up being

pretty expensive but she said it is absolutely worth it (the dog also requires

more work than your typical dog as he/she needs to keep up with his/her

training). The main job of this particular dog is to keep the boy safe (flight

risk was their main issue - which seems to be pretty common for our curious...

explorers).

While I am by no means ready to get on the list, this little " service dog " seed

was planted in my head and I would like to learn more about it.

Any input would be appreciated.

I would love to hear about anyone else who has a service dog too. I have thought for the past three years that I would like for to have a dog to keep her safe. We live in a heavily wooded area and Miss likes to leave our home. Sent from my iPhone
