Guest guest
HI Kim You will find for the first few years or so your son may have some hearing loss due to ear infections and this is because kids with DS ear canals are so small the fluid does not drain properly and can cause an infection. Tubes will help if Will does get too many infections. Also for my two sons ear wax was another cause of hearing loss. I did not always go to the ENT to have it cleaned out only because my sons had so many different appointments. The wax would eventually pass, I also found each time the doctor checked their ears the wax would usually come out that evening. I know you son is very young and is just nursing but one thing to keep in mind as he gets older and starts on a more things to eat, is when he gets a cold stay away from all dairy products until he is over his cold. Dairy creates build up of mucus which in turn can cause infections and lots of runny noses. Congratulations on your little guy and that is awesome he passed hearing test at birth. I would not worry too much about his hearing unless you see something is wrong. I'd be interested to know how you have dealt with this. I've been reading that cleanings by an ENT specialist every 3 months is a good idea and other places say every 9 months. Just trying to sort through all the information and wondering if anyone could offer any advice or share their particular experience. Will is now 3 months old and he passed the hearing test at birth...just don't want to miss anything. Thank you!
