I think you really have to go with your gut feeling for what is best for him. Sounds like you have a wonderful family that bonds outside of school significantly! We decided not to hold our back. We wanted our triplets to stay together. Aside from being tiny and heart issues, she had no other major health issues. It has worked very well for us keeping them in the same grade with the same peers who all know and love her from elementary school. I agree with pushing the reading. My loves to read and is good at it! They will do it!
