Guest guest
Mayleen, The title of my post was " Clorox puts out accurate info regarding ILL HEALTH from mold " . As far as how to clean up mold; I think Clorox leaves a little to be desired in their directions. If you are cleaning some mold out of a shower, bleach is good. If you and your children are attempting to clean up a flooded basement, the advisory by Clorox should have a bit more urgency in their directions, I believe. Warnings such as pregnant women should NEVER clean mold or use Bleach in a manner that could be inhaled would be appropriate. The significance of the below is that a private sector corporation which has funded much research regarding mold, acknowledges there are toxic effects including memory loss. _http://www.cloroxprofessional.com/healthcenter/moldmildews.shtml_ (http://www.cloroxprofessional.com/healthcenter/moldmildews.shtml) Sharon In a message dated 11/8/2010 6:26:00 A.M. Unlike quat-based products, bleach not only removes mold stains, it actually changes the chemical and biochemical nature of the mold and its allergens so the allergens, which cause allergies and asthma in some people, become ineffective. _http://www.cloroxprofessional.com/healthcenter/moldmildews.shtml_ (http://www.cloroxprofessional.com/healthcenter/moldmildews.shtml) Dr Thrasher, Is this accurate ?? However, for some people, even trace amounts of common indoor mold can cause allergic reactions such as nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, wheezing, and in more serious cases, respiratory illness. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 4,487 people died of asthma-related deaths in the year 2000. Some scientists believe a large percentage of those deaths were caused or aggravated by mold. Studies have also linked black mold or Stachybotrys to memory loss and lung tissue damage. Toxic Mold Toxic molds are those molds capable of producing mycotoxins, like the so-called " black mold " or Stachybotrys chartarum. This mold has been linked to debilitating symptoms such as lung tissue damage and memory loss. Black mold often hides behind walls or above ceiling tiles and can grow as a result of even a small water leak. Fortunately, black mold is uncommon. Because its impact can be serious, it's important that you immediately contact a trained professional to inspect any suspected problem.
