Guest guest
Hi Bev, Seems like we've all got different geographic tongues...........surprise, surprise! <grin> BTW as far as I know 'geographic tongues' is a toni specialty not a bona fide medical name for it, well at least not here.....<trying to cover my tracks:-)> Mine is different from Mark's as mine is white lines that make a some very interesting and diverse patterns, I don't have patches like Mark. Guest guest
I have always heard its diet related also. B vitamin defiecency I think but maybe wrong on that. B vitamins, I think they are so important to us dealing with rheumatic disease. Has everyone looked at the nutritional recommendations in the articles on Dr. Nicolson's website, (in the diagnosis and treatment ones)? I am not following these exact recommendations yet, but plan to keep fine-tuning my supplementation to bring it in line with these. Whenever I get totally fed up with swallowing such an overflowing handful of pills, and slack off on my B's, I can really tell the difference after awhile! The areas it seems to make the greatest difference in myself are: pain level in the small joints, numbness and tingling in the extremities, and general health of skin and hair. Guest guest
Toni, I guess it is more than just surface problems then. I hope you can get rid of it. If you found the scientific name maybe you could do a search and see if there's anything on the net about it. Bev Re: rheumatic Prednisone > > > > > From: MHOLMES@... Guest guest
Liz, The tongue in the picture sure looks sore. Ouch. There is no way you could brush your tongue with a toothbrush like I suggested. I was thinking of a coating you sometimes get on your tongue. Now I know what geographic tongue is. It is a lot more complicated than that. Thanks for posting this, Liz. Hugs Bev Re: rheumatic Geographic Tongue > From: " Liz G. I think the mycoplasma infection uses up nutrients especially magnesium, selenium and zinc. So if you take supplements to replace these it may help the tongue to heal. Of course, the antibiotics help to clear the mycoplasma. a Carnes

Guest guest
Hi , A geographic tongue looks much like a map with many irregularities instead of a smooth, flat, normal looking tongue. But then whose to say what a normal tongue is. I have seen a few in my work as an assistant and they are distinctly different looking. It is possible it may be caused by P but many people have it for no know reason. It isn't painful or cause any problems with function. It just looks a little different. Anyone on medication, especially MTX, should be on the watch for mouth sores. If you have anything that is painful it is a good idea to have your doc or dentist have a looksey. Take Care! Guest guest
Kari, I tried to find where I read something on geographic tongue. I believe it was in some homeopathic book, but I couldn't find the exact one. However, one place you might start is Practical Homeopathy by Vinton McCabe on p. 137-139, indications of the tongue. Good luck. It does sound painful. Eileen > Hi all. I'm new to the list and new to ER4YT (3 weeks). I have something called geographic tongue, which is basically a problem where my tongue gets patches of raw spots on it and swells up for a while. This happens when I eat certain foods (can't figure out which ones yet (although it seems to be happening more regularly since I started " Eating Right " ). Guest guest
Kari, I had a geographic tongue a year or so ago. It turned out to be a vitamin B deficiency. My doctor told me to take high doses of B12 and a high potency B complex. Within a few weeks the pain was gone and a few weeks after that my tongue looked normal again. From my reading I was quite surprised to find that people who eat high protein diets are more susceptible to B vitamin deficiency. I still take the B complex everyday. If you had thrush (oral yeast infection) you might be even more susceptible to vitamin deficiencies and food allergies. You might have an intestinal yeast overgrowth that could be affecting your ability to absorb nutrients and may contribute to food allergies. When I was breast feeding my daughter she developed thrush because I had to take a round of antibiotics which she must have gotten through my milk. To make a long story short we had quite a time getting her digestive tract normalized again after that. One of the biggest contributors to yeast problems is the Standard American Diet (SAD) because it is so loaded with the sugars that yeast thrives upon. I believe that one of the reasons we feel so much better on the ER4YT diet is that it significantly reduces the amount of sugar that we consume thereby reducing the numbers of yeast colonies in our intestines. Taking a good quality acidophilus to increase the beneficial flora is very helpful for keeping the yeast at normal levels and promoting good digestion. Something else you might try is cutting down on acidic foods such as tomatoes, citrus, pineapple, etc. Some of these aren't on the Type O diet but just in case you're eating them try avoiding them for a while. I hope this is helpful. Good luck! I know how painful a geographic tongue can be! Re: Geographic Tongue Kari, I tried to find where I read something on geographic tongue. Guest guest
It seems to me your DR was WAY wrong about the geographic tongue diagnosis! Geographic tongue is a benign condition that makes the tongue look very " groovy. " It does not hurt at all and is usually hereditary. There is no treatment and none is needed. Your son did NOT have it, period. Boy the more i learn the more i distrust most MD's. Boneheads. RDH
Guest guest
Hi-- I don't know the whole thread, but I want to comment that geographic tongue does hurt sometimes. It has to do with what is in the diet. It can make for pain on the edges. I have it. I don't know what my triggers are exactly. It used to be tomato sauce, but now that doesn't bother me much. It was the worst recently when I was taking high doses of MSM. I found something online that said that the pain may have to do with a depletion of the B vitamins. So I took a lot of B vitamin and was able to help the pain go away. Geographic tongue also has a hormonal tie... in women, it flares up around day 17 of their cycle. This is something that I had noticed long ago, and just found info on it on the net recently. It creates white lines on the tongue, as if the outlines of a map--hence, Geographic. It is tied to gastrointestinal issues, too. Guest guest
~ Could you describe what your tongue looks like? White and red patches??? If so, sounds like me tongue and yes it is Candidia. I haven't tried GSE but have been taking different things for over a year. Still have a patchy tongue. Geographic Tongue Hi, My name is . This is my first post. I have been suffering from a condition called geographic tongue for years. I did a search on this website, but nothing came up on it so I want to be the first person to start a topic on it here. I came across an article where a woman said she tried Grapefruit Seed Extract. She said that it was without a doubt a form of Candidasis. My question is has anyone experience this condition and has anyone tried GSE. Don't get me wrong guys, I'm not someone who is naive and believe everything I read on the Internet. I always do research on things I read about or want to try. I've seen GSE in health food stores and I am willing to give it a try.
Guest guest
Grapefruit seed Extract is used and recommended by many people and natural healing canidida books. I don't think that you would be at all naive to use it it is helped many people. I personally hate the idea of taking synthetic drugs to heal my candida, particularly since taking synthetic drugs was what added to my overgrowth in the first place. If you are going to take natural herbal remedies, know that you will have to take a variety of supplements/remedies. This is primaily to " weave your web of health back together " . If you are interested in herbal or natural health contact a qualified herbalist, naturopathic or holistic practitioner, or an acupuncturist (they don't have to puncture you if you don't want, but it is a great way towards balance). It you insist on healing yourself ~ STUDY STUDY STUDY as though you were in school. Learn about all of the contra-indications of herbs, the side effects, the herbs that should be taken in association with the herb you are taking for added effectiveness. Anyway, I think that you are on the right path in researching GSE before using it, these are just recomendations for the rest of the healing process. Certain herbs help certain things, some help alot of things, and there are several that have been shown throughout history to heal candida (thrush or vaginal yeasts). Good luck! Guest guest
Thank you so much for starting this discussion. I've been doing the diet, supplements, etc. for several months now to battle chronic vaginal infections as well as thrush on my tongue, which I thought I have had for 3 years now. But thanks to your post I now realize that I have geographic tongue and not thrush. I had never even heard of this condition but after seeing the post I looked it up and the pictures look exactly like what I have. It developed when I was pregnant 3 years ago and I mentioned it to my OB who looked at it, said it's thrush and prescribed Nystatin. It has been coming and going ever since then. I have mentioned it to several doctors since and non of them questioned my statement that it was thrush. Each one wrote out another prescription for Nystatin. Now I'm questioning how much of a Candida problem I really have. I still have gas/bloating if I eat too much wheat or grains. My sinus/allergy symptoms have improved somewhat with the changes I've made and the vaginal symptoms are still the same. And on that note, can you tell me how you are using the GSE that it cleared up your symptoms. I use it orally (15 drops/day in a 4 oz. glass of OJ ((yes I know thats off limits but it is the only thing that covers the taste enough to get it down)). I also used 10 drops in 6 oz of warm water as a douche once or twice but haven't been consistent. I am starting to question if I have been pursuing the right avenues since I have not had a doctor diagnose any of my symptoms. They want to write it off as IBS, changes in hormones, allergies etc. but not to connect the dots and find the REAL issue. Thanks, > I do have the same condition. I have it for almost over a year now. > Since a couple of days I am on the diet now en and my doctor told me > to use Grapefruit Seed Extract. I can not tell you yet if it does > work for my tongue. Guest guest
Thanks, let me know how it goes. I have up'd my nystatin and it seems to be helping but sure would like something to get rid of my tongue symptoms. Have you ever noticed the changes in the coating on your tongue as you go through you menstrual cycle. About the week before my friend visits my tongue gets really bad then the week of it is clear as a blue sky, then I start the down hill walk to the nice white coating.
