Guest guest
NO they would not interfere Mandi Hi,Our son has been prescribed the antibiotic vancomycin for his clostridia overgrowth. It is supposed to be given in 4 doses per day so i'm doing it at meal times + bedtime, but we usually give enzymes before meals - does anybody know if the enzymes would interfere with vancomycin)?thanks in advanceJo

Guest guest
Jo we did Vanco fairly early on. It put paid to the Clostridia and we kept the gains. There is research which says children don't keep their developmental gains, but then again those kids in the research might not have done biomed! I contacted the researchers, see below. Read on what happened when we did Vanco and J was three. He was riddled with clostridia and this put paid to it. You need good probios and perhaps candex straight afterwards. Vanco is a carpet-bomber. it wipes out everything. I'll go on and tell you what I did about enzymes in a min... ________________________________________________ In a message dated 8/23/2005 10:56:45 PM Pacific Daylight Time, eileen.chiverton@... writes: Dear Sir/Madam, I would be very grateful if you could send me the details of the Vancomycin study. We are treating our son with a one week course of this at the moment, and I would be most interested to understand the background, i.e. the research. Many thanks for your help Eileen Chiverton Mother of , 3 yrs, ASD UK Dear Eileen: Copied below is the abstract that was published regarding our vancomycin study. The full article is available through a medical library. J Child Neurol. 2000 Jul;15(7):429-35. Short-term benefit from oral vancomycin treatment of regressive-onset autism. Sandler RH, Finegold SM, Bolte ER, Buchanan CP, Maxwell AP, Vaisanen ML, MN, Wexler HM. Section of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Rush Children's Hospital, Rush Medical College, Chicago, IL 60612, USA. rushstudy@... In most cases symptoms of autism begin in early infancy. However, a subset of children appears to develop normally until a clear deterioration is observed. Many parents of children with " regressive " -onset autism have noted antecedent antibiotic exposure followed by chronic diarrhea. We speculated that, in a subgroup of children, disruption of indigenous gut flora might promote colonization by one or more neurotoxin-producing bacteria, contributing, at least in part, to their autistic symptomatology. To help test this hypothesis, 11 children with regressive-onset autism were recruited for an intervention trial using a minimally absorbed oral antibiotic. (Vancomycin). Entry criteria included antecedent broad-spectrum antimicrobial exposure followed by chronic persistent diarrhea, deterioration of previously acquired skills, and then autistic features. Short-term improvement was noted using multiple pre- and post-therapy evaluations. These included coded, paired videotapes scored by a clinical psychologist blinded to treatment status; these noted improvement in 8 of 10 children studied. Unfortunately, these gains had largely waned at follow-up. Although the protocol used is not suggested as useful therapy, these results indicate that a possible gut flora-brain connection warrants further investigation, as it might lead to greater pathophysiologic insight and meaningful prevention or treatment in a subset of children with autism. ___________________________________________________________________ This research result was different for us. J kept those very early gains. Just spoke to my husband, we remember J stopped spinning and delayed echolalia really got less. We did Enzymes at the same time and it didn't seem to get in the way at all. I gave the enzymes with meals, left it an hour to digest, then dosed the vanco. I do that now too. Die off was pretty nasty. Tablets weren't out when we did it, we used the liquid mixed with water which was for injectables because at that time that was all that was available. Vanco is one of the gold standard abx for strep as well, so I really hope it helps for you overall. Just watch out for the backlash when you finish it, have your probiotics and candex as well if you do it, perhaps might be an idea. All this just based on my child's reactions. Some kids are really sensitive to this. Just so you know x My attitude is, bet you none of those kids in that study ever saw a probiotic! > > Hi, > Our son has been prescribed the antibiotic vancomycin for his clostridia overgrowth. Guest guest
I concur with Eileen, vancomycin eliminated clostridia here, so many gains from it including perfectly formed stools in the toilet, YIPPPEEEE!!!!!Take her advice re the probio's. We did a ridiculous amounts but it worked. Be pedantic to avoid regression. Also we had no probs at all with enzymes and we were on vanco here for 10 weeks. x To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 5:38 PM Subject: vancomycin + enzymes?
