Ketoacidosis! That is the word I could not remember.

At what level of sugar does ketosis occur?

The sweet smell in the breath comes from bad control, it is a sign of diabetic

ketoacidosis and that shows that your blood sugar is very high and your body is

breaking down from feeding on itself, a very dangerous condition.

The high sugar does not cause the ketoacidosis, it is the lack of insulin. The

cure is to give more insulin, and most likely give IV fluids if the sufferer is

getting dehydrated, which is another side effect of this condition. The Bg will

be above 250 mg/dl. The fat and muscle tissue is being broken down into sugar

very rapidly, which is why it needs to be stopped as quickly as possible.

Thanks Lee. I don't think I am likely to be there.  I do insulin.  I sometimes

skip one if I forget or take it at weird times.
