Thank you for the many responses to my question. I still haven't received a

definitive answer. People gave me logical explanations for all three.

1. Flies: correct according to grammatical rules

2. Flys: Plural for fly (meaning person who drives a carriage)

3. Flyes: Modern conventional spelling.

As discussed, we have problems with other weight training terms (Roman chair;

toe raises, heal raises, calf raises; eccentric vs. pliometric)

Perhaps a professional group, such as ACSM or NSCA, should issue a position

statement to standardize terminology.
