Guest guest
Hi Jackie, Welcome back. I'm glad to hear that you are finally out of your moldy environment, and are feeling much better. Everything you said, below, is true, but I am concerned that many Newbies may misinterpret your personal experiences as confirming the " nonsense " that their allergy doctors are telling them. Almost all allergy doctors tell us that " all we have is allergies, and all of our ranting about " non-allergic " TOXIC mold reaction is a sign of our mental illness. " I am an allergy/asthma sufferer since the age of 9, and a TOXIC mold reactor for the last 15 years. I am 67 years old. My own personal experiences, with BOTH medical problems, has taught me that the two different illnesses are indeed DIFFERENT illnessess. I, myself, DO HAVE both an allergic reaction to, AND also a TOXIC reaction to, mold. The confirmation of the difference and separateness of the two illnesses, comes from the fact that my allergy/asthma inhalers and medicines ONLY relieved that part of my suffering that was caused by my ALLERGIC mold reaction. The part of my suffering that was caused by my TOXIC reaction, was not relieved, in the slightest, by my allergy/asthma meds. We, on this forum, must never say anything that would let a newbie mininterpret our words to come to the belief that ALL they have is an " allergy " to mold. As an aside, the latest statistics [published in allergist's professional journals]confirms that allergy shots only help 40 percent of all patients (at best estimate). Naturally, in the doctor's attempt to convince the patient, that he/she [the doctor] is GOD, they imply, to the patient, that there is a 100 percent success rate for allergy shots. I've endured 3 different, lengthy regimens of allergy shots, at three different periods of my life, and I can affirm that they NEVER did me a damn bit of good. And these 3 regimens took place many years before my first exposure/reaction to TOXIC mold, so there was no toxic factor involved in my allergic reactions. Joe ................................... > > > The allergy shots do work if you have an allergy to mold. Allergy shots are the most natural way to treat allergies so I can't understand why people don't consider being tested for allergies and taking the shots. I have been taking them for 2 years and I have seen a mark difference in my health. It was not always like this. I had several rounds of allergy shots since I was 24 years old and none worked as well as the ones I am taking now. My doctor has been so great at working with my body. If I feel the shots are too much, he allows me to listen to my body and cuts back on the serum. In the past I would end up with whelps as big as golf balls and miserable for days after the shots. The shots my last MD gave me were a little rough the first few months but after about 3 months, my health got better and better. It is bad enough to be ill from mold period but to have an allergy to mold while living in a sick building is double trouble. Being tested for mold allergies should be part of anyone health care who is living in a sick building. I can't understand why people dispute the shots so much. A good allergist also recommends that a person leaves the mold. There is no way of getting around the mold but to leave. I know for some it is hard. It was very hard for me. I ended up in one mold environment after another. I was out of work and caring for my sick mother on top of me being sick so life was tough. I could not afford to move either but we finally did. I don't think I could have lived too much longer in the environment.
