Guest guest
Bummer, Charlotte. How old were the seeds? I've had poor yields on 2-year-old arugula and cress; some seeds are more sensitive than others. Molly > I got nowhere with this. Reputable organic seeds but only around 3% sprouted. Very poorly looking things which turned brown as the rest of the seeds rotted

It's the only thing so far that's given me a hard time sprouting *cry*. I may try again with a new batch of seeds sometime. On the positive, Melodys lovely talk around sunnies tempted me to try these and what beauts they are! Delicious. Thanks Melody, your positive talk led me to try out what proved to be a great first crop Down with buckwheat lettuce, long live sunnies!!!! Guest guest
Hi Charlotte. I give all the credit to EW. He has been trying to get me to grow Sunnies for quite a while. They are FABULOUS aren't they? I just put up 3 more batches today along with lots of chia. Oh, you guys will love hearing this. Today, on Fox 5 on The Insider they did a big segment on Organic Chia and how HEALTHY it is for you. And then some gal was holding sprouts and she said " You want to know what is REALLY HEALTHY?? " Broccoli Sprouts " And then she went on to talk about the anti-oxidant benefits of Broccoli Sprouts. I was so happy. lol Melody > > You do tempt us with those sunnies. >  > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  > > > To: sproutpeople > Sent: Wednesday, May 9, 2012 1:58 PM > Subject: buckwheat lettuce - fail! > > >  > I got nowhere with this. Guest guest
Melody, you're most definately the Queen of Sunnies. I guess Brooklyn is a sunny place to be Mine did seem ridiculously easy to grow. Black oil sunflowers. I'm tempted to plant some out into the garden to harvest the sead heads in Autumn, bees and bugs permitting (Fall... why is it called Fall in the US, does anyone know?!). Guest guest
I have grown several varieties of sunflowers for years, including black oil seed. They are VERY easy to grow, not so easy to harvest, but well worth the effort. They do well in containers, near fencelines, or beside your mailbox. I usually have 9 varieties, and have never had any that didn't flourish. Worth trying-its cheap, fun and easy...but very fiddly to harvest the seeds from the heads. I made a youtube video of how to harvest them, but can't find it at the moment-i will post it when I do. > > > > Shut your mouth, EVEN BEFORE I READ WHAT YOU JUST WROTE, I GAVE YOU ALL THE CREDIT. > > > > You see, I am from Brooklyn, and we give credit where credit's due!!! > > > > lol > > Melody >
