Guest guest
HI, my name is Green and I am new to the group so I just wanted to introduce myself. I have three boys. My son Camron was diagnosed as Autistic when he was two. He had stopped talking then. We believe it was because of the immunizations he was receiving at that time. Since then we have been looking for different ways to help Camron regain his speech and also help with some digestive issues. I look forward to sharing my experiences as well as learning from the rest of the group.
Guest guest
Hi Sue, If you have not read the book " The Late Talker " by Agin, Geng, and Nicholl, you really should get it. It was really helpful. Are you inolved with therapy through your public schools? They are obligated to provide therapy beginning at age 3. She needs 3 one half hour sessions per week to make progress. Who made your diagnosis? Keep in touch. I am reading everything I can about Apraxia and its treatment, and we are currently fighting for our 3 year old Damon to receive the appropriate therapy. If therapy is started early and done well, the prognosis is really pretty good.....Fay Iorio

Guest guest
No Fay I have not read the book yet. was just diagnosed in the middle on November. So I am still trying to struggle along with this. She started preschool at our local school in September. She loves it. Even now her speech is slightly better. Not a whole lot, but a tad. More than anything she slows down a little so that you can grasp a little more of it. When she goes real fast it just becomes a big huge garbled mess. The preschools here get speech therapy automatically a few times a wk. But I went through the school district for her evaluation. They had a seperate agency called Upstate Cerebal Palsy do it. They got right on the ball with this. But my family and I are all pushing for this. One good thing is my parents were local teachers in the district for over 30 yrs so they know everyone. So everything is getting done quickly. Thank you so much for the help and I will get the book soon. Thanx again. Also thank you to the others that responded. It helps to know you are not alone in this. My email is cayenne11@... or smatthie2@... either one. --- fay iorio <fiorio@...> wrote: > Hi Sue, If you have not read the book " The Late > Talker " by Agin, Geng, and > Nicholl, you really should get it. Guest guest
Hi Sherry, Yes, I am a night owl. :-) It's the only adult time I get. I have 6 children so I really need my " me " time. lol It's great to hear how well Chase is doing. Yea, fluid retention is pretty common, it does go away once a baby has graduated. With the DOCband, once they graduate there helmet is off. By that time the life of the band has been exhausted. Don't worry they learn really quick that w/o their band they can hurt their heads. It's a common concern a lot of parents have. Most babies do bang their heads a few times before the figure out their band is gone. I've never heard of any baby getting seriously hurt though. I LOVE Manhattan! I have a doctor's appointment on the 24th, at Mt.Sinai medical center on Madison ave and 100th street. Are you near there? We should make plans to meet up some day, that would be so cool. In all the years I've been here I only met one member from the group. And that was by coincidence, we met at CT one day. Well my soon to be 3 year old just woke up, I have to give her a breathing treatment so it's off to sleep for me. Have a great night, night owl. :-) > > it seems you're a late night person like me? Guest guest
Ok great cold turkey on the band. I can't believe I'm thinking about and planning for Chase graduating already! I guess we'll be reaching the midpoint soon. It's coming up on 5 weeks. He doesn't have an adjustment this week I hope we make it 2 weeks this time! I'm not too close to Mt. Sinai but I know Manhattan well. It's a wonderful hospital. I could use some walking - even with breastfeeding I gained 20 lbs since the baby was born. I have no time to exercise. I do have to go uptown alot to 70 for my son that's his hospital NY Hospital. My husband did some investigating when I was expecting and they were the only NY Hospital on the Best Hospitals list (ha ha) so we had to go there. My brother has a little store up there on 87th and I've been meaning to visit him, it's a new store, Ebay. So maybe I'll try to plan something with you for the 24th that would be cool! You know how it is with these babies though. I have 1 to juggle I can't imagine how you juggle 6. I'm expecting to have appointments this week with EI hopefully because since the PT quit Chase missed already 2 weeks of " real " PT. The new agency is supposed to be on board Mon. so I'm hoping and expecting lots of appointments and calls this upcoming week. It would be fun to arrange a group meeting one day too. I know 2 others in NY (who may be interested), and you and me. And my husband usually tags along! So that's a group. If I had time I could do something more formal find a friendly space etc. but my time is so so limited and I have a list of things to do with about 100 things on it. Unfortunately my apt. is too small even for a small group, it's tiny. In a great area but not good for entertaining. It's tough when people visit which is alot with my husbands family being in euorpe. How do you come into the city through the midtown tunnel? What town do you live in in LI? Guest guest
Hi Sherry, Yep, cold turkey. lol When will Chase be graduating? The time in their bands really does fly by. I just found out this am that on the 24th, I'm going in with hubby. Which means it's an in and out visit, b/c he has to get to work. :-( I'll be back in though so hopefully we can get together then. I'd love to check out your brother's ebay store. I take the train in and catch a cab to Mt. Sinai's. It's too much of a hassle to drive. By the time I get out of there it's late and we're in traffic for 3 hours. I'm in Ronkonkoma, exit 60 off the LIE. That stinks about Chase's PT, hopefully their act is straightened out by Monday. That would annoy me that he's missed 2 weeks already. Take care, > > > > > > it seems you're a late night person like me? I think I posted > an > > > update recently but if not Chase is doing good. Guest guest
Thanks yup I was being squeeky as usual. It gets a bit tiring always being squeeky but we have no choice it's for our babies! It's funny how there's nothing till May and then there's something 5 mins. later in 2 days. About April that would be great to meet. As soon as I get a PT/OT schedule I know more of my avail. days. We'll figure out something. Hopefully the weahter will be nice by then. Sherry > > Sherry, > I am SOOOO happy to hear this! YAH!!!! The squeaky wheel got the > grease. :-) You go girl.
Guest guest
I sent an email to CT too my ortho to see if she's had any experience with anything like this all these eye issues. Also I asked her about the fluid if it is extra external fluid if it's a problem wearing the band? Sherry > > Sherry, > I am SOOOO happy to hear this! YAH!!!! Guest guest
Sherry, Everything happens for a reason. My fingers are crossed for you and Chase! April is good for me too, I don't have to have an appointment to go out there. We could always meet somewhere and have lunch or a cup of coffee, you know? I would just love to meet you and Chase and of course I'd bring with me. You let me know when it's a good time for you. -- In Plagiocephaly , " alwell_sherry " <type916@...> wrote: > > Thanks yup I was being squeeky as usual. Guest guest
Sherry, I think it would maybe depend on the amount of fluid? had extra fluid and was banded without any problems. Let me know what your orthos says. I sent you an email today and I got it back saying your mailbox was full?? -- In Plagiocephaly , " alwell_sherry " <type916@...> wrote: > > I sent an email to CT too my ortho to see if she's had any experience > with anything like this all these eye issues.
