Guest guest
We have always had to limit what we do each summer- both due to money, and the patience of having our Aspie out and about. This summer has been wonderful, though. We started out the summer with a 3 day trip with all of her Girl Scout troop. I always volunteer to help out with activities, because it's easier to keep a handle on her. We went to an indoor waterpark for 3 days with 3 adults total to 10 little 10 year olds. Much sanity was needed by the end of THAT trip. A few days later, we left on a 6 day camping trip. My husband could not take time off from work, and my 13yo son did not want to go. I took my 10yo Aspie, my 16yo NT daughter, and my 10yo NT niece. We took a ferry to an island on day. We drove way up almost to Canada another day and played in water falls. We rode 2 zip lines. We watched a laser light show. We watched the fireworks over Lake Michigan. It was a lot of fun. Through out the summer, we have had season passes to a small amusement park about 2 hours away. We've now gone 4 times this summer, which has been fun by itself. But, it's also right near where my aunt lives, and right near Lake Michigan, so we've also spent some time on the beach, the pier, and the boardwalk. Twice now, we've gotten to stay late enough to watch the Musical Fountains (which is free, and also the worlds largest musical fountain). My aspie is a HUGE fan of Mythbusters- it's one of her fixations. She knows each episode inside and out. So much so, that she can tell you the episode number where a specific stunt happened, and rattle off the dialogue. Anyway, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago has a MB's traveling exhibit though the end of summer. I knew it would take quite a bit of money to go, but my husband's office (he works in the tech field) contributes a large amount to a local science museum, so they have a pass that can be used there to get us in free. We wound up driving down on a Saturday a few weeks ago, and went for the day. She was in 7th heaven- not even just the MB exhibit. She loved the hall with all the hands on science stuff. She could have stayed there all day, had we let her. In fact, sometime this month, we're going back down with a friend and her aspie son, who also loves MB. This past weekend, we went over to help my Mom have a yard sale. She's got major back issues, and is going in on the 22nd of August to have a portion of her Lumbar region spine fused together, and will be out of commission for 3-6 months. They live right on a lake, so despite working hard, we took several boat rides, swam, met new dogs (my Aspie adores dogs), and met a friend who works for Nestlea, and gave us way too much candy to take home. It feels like I haven't been home at all this summer. And, coming up, I am taking my kids and my 5yo niece to the amusement park, then we're going camping on the lakeshore in 2 weeks, followed by a Girl Scout visit to Greenfield Village near Detroit. BUSY, but lots of fun!
