Guest guest
I want to share this study I came across from Dr. Leopold in Nebraska, it caught my attention. Just a quick recap - I inhaled through my nose some concentrated spot cleaner and caused, in my opinion, permanent damage to my olfactory neuroepithelium resulting in excitotoxicity resembling what some may call Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. I take an NMDA antagonist to get through the day. I am now hypersensitive to one unknown particle, whether it's a volatile organic compound, mycotoxin, solvent, I'm not sure, but it significantly impacts my life. In its presence I have severe fatigue, neurologic impairment, and " brain fog. " At its worst, I couldn't swallow correctly. I do however believe it is a mycotoxin of some sort. Like many on here, I have left everything behind (porous items, homes, cars) and I just feel it is something of that nature. Please take a look at this if you feel your condition results from some particle landing on your nasal olfactory epithelium resulting in hypersensitivity: http://chemse.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/27/7/611 His article is related to olfaction, not necessarily some unknown chemical landing on your olfactory epithelium resulting in some irrational response, excitotoxicity, NMDA, etc.. But, I have never seen any doctor recommend the following... 1. using lidocaine/cocaine to block the olfactory neuroepithelium to determine if that in fact is the source of the problem. 2. Removing the neurons via surgery (I'm really dumbing this down). Has anyone ever heard of this before? Surgery to remove the olfactory epithelium would truly scare me. But has anyone considered it or heard of others who have? I mean, if you confirm it with blocks beforehand, it seems reasonable that it would work. Thanks for any input. I understand not everyone feels they have CFS/SBS/MCS related to olfactory damage, and this perhaps is a better fit for the MCS forum, but I wanted to get your thoughts if any.
