Guest guest
Sherry from your note I am assuming you have already contacted her doctor? I would follow your docs advice and set up an appointment with the neuro as recommended and stop blaming yourself as you know that as parents we are not gods and cannot control every aspect of our children's lives as much as we think we can. There will be times regardless of what we do our children will get sick or hurt or whatever and to blame ourselves because we aren't perfect almost borders on arrogance. (now, I'm not saying you are I am just talking in general which includes all of us parents who go on a guilt trip and start blaming ourselves) Blaming yourself doesn't fix the problem so you waste a lot of energy you might need for those all-nighters you may have to contend with. :-) Carol Trishasmom She isn't typical, She's Trisha! Guest guest
First - relax. Maybe she ate at the party, but didn't drink enough to stay hydrated - fever might indicate that. Shaking is not a seizure - repeat ten times - shaking is not a seizure!!!! Don't you shake when you are too col, too hot (as in febrile but chilled? I do. Feeling really ill can make one get the " shakes. " That doesn't mean she can't have a seizure or may have had one, but usually, the " shakes " are not seizures - even if the eyes roll baack. So treat symptoms as you see them. Try some acetominophen when she has drunk something and has not vomited for a few hours. Encourage fluids in some form that she likes - maybe ices.slushies, pop, jello, whatever she likes. (clear liquids today because she is vomiting.) Get an appointment with a neuro as suggested. The " take her to the ER " is because it is Sunday - but also if you go to ER, you MIGHT get a faster appoint with the neuro. This is not medical advice - just mothering. Check with your doctor is anything more or different occurs. > Is anybody out there? Sara the nurse? anyone. is 19 and woke up > vomiting. We've all been sick but got beter. Guest guest
Sherry - sounds like you are doing everything that there is to do and you have no reason to blame yourself for anything. I doubt that the melatonin could have had anything to do with this, especially since she has had it before. I havent started giving any to Mikayla but believe that it is probably time to start. Seems like there is a party in her room all night long and not real motivated to get up for school Thanks to Sara for the reassurance that shaking doesnt always mean seizures - I know Mikayla doesnt get sick often but when she does a round of the flu can be traumatic. My prayers are with you and again I thing you are doing EVERYTHING you can so dont be so hard on yourself Amber > > > Is anybody out there? Sara the nurse? anyone. is 19 and woke up > > vomiting. I thought we were thru with this. This was one of the upsides of the anemia...she slept so good. I forget how old mikayla is but Miss jamie used to jump upa and down on her bed all frigging night going eeheeheeheeheeh...that droning sound. Shudder. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Sherry,My son is 10 years old and has had several seizures. His eyes always rolled back like you said and he had shaking but he never vomited with them. I have talked to several other people on the epilepsy kids boards on Yahoo and I do know that there is a seizure type related to their periods. I can't remember the name but it would be easy to look up.Even though there is no such thing as febrile seizures at age 19, a high fever does bring on seizures in people who are prone them.My son is doing fine now on medication. We are lucky that there are so many wonderful drugs now for seizures. So if that is what she is experiencing the right medication should give her complete control. Guest guest
Sherry,I just wanted to add that I didn't mean to alarm you about my son's seizures. Hopefully that is not even what had. I just want to let you know that if was seizure related like 's that he is fine and that is is controllable.Terry Help needed NOW/seizure?To: > Is anybody out there? Guest guest
Carol, unfortunately my sick sense of humor doesn't come across online the same way to everyone. (But I'm not blaming myself for that LOL) Here is a note I received from someone else who must also have a wacky sense of humor. << Just wanted to send my best wishes, AND tell you how much I appreciate your sense of humor in the face of such worry (you wrote " I have to blame myself for something " or something like that).>> I'm not blaming myself really...just being nervous and silly. I'm actually pretty proud of the way we handled things this AM...especially my dh who usually freezes during crises. He just stepped right up to the plate. I'm so glad he was here. woke up and started acting like her usual nutso self...now she's gone back to sleep. She's definitely getting her period cause she keeps trying to pull off her little boobs; they must hurt. I'll have to post later about the most wonderful birthday party she had last night...best in years. She even started to watch her new DURABRAND DVD player for a short while before going back to sleep. Thanks again for the tip on that. Guest guest
Sherry, If she had a fever that would cause to shake from chills and could cause to do seizure like activity. Is taken the same meds with the melatonin as before when got it? I think that it is the fever giving off seizure activity.Once when I had a real high fever I saw the Devil laughing at me on the ceiling, was shaking and feeling really wrong. My husband had typhoid fever and shook so badly the whole be was shaking and he did not even realize this. He was burning up with fever.Fever can do strange things to our bodies. used to never shake when he got out of the tub and at about 6 yr old he was getting out of the tub shaking. At first I thought what is wrong with him and then if it was cool outside he would shake.Sometime our bodies change and do things they have never done for no reason. But I really feel the fever is the culprit. The neurologist will do and eeg and see if there is any seizure activity.I have had this done on both my son and my daughter. I agree you would get into a nero sooner if referred by the ER. Keep us informed. Cyndi B > > Is anybody out there? Sara the nurse? anyone. is 19 and woke up vomiting. Guest guest
was this way on Friday. He just had the stomach flu and fever around two weeks ago, the 28th of december. We barely made it home from his f/u hearing test (he didn't pass the first one) did better on this one, back up to mild loss bilat. Anyways he said " tired " and kept falling asleep, and then kept yawning during test, and kinda gagged when yawned, I thought maybe his reflux was bothering him. Then he refused his Mcdonalds (which is like winning the lottery) said " not yet " (always gets mcd's after a doc appt when he is good) Then we just made it in the door and he started vomiting on his way to the bathroom, and had projectile vomiting. At first I thought maybe he's constipated but then after aboutt he third projectile emesis (I have no idea where all this is coming from as he only ate two pb waffles for breakfast) He looked flushed and felt buring up, his temp was 101.3 axillary. I called his doc and she just stated " lots of flu going around " He just had the flu hmmmm, she gave us a phenergan RX and that stopped the projectile vomiting, he has never vomited like that, not even two weeks ago. And we did the usual fever routine, alternated tylenol and ibuprofen and gave him a luke warm bath. Encouraged sips of fluid every 15-30minutes. We stayed up until 3am after his fever broke, then went to bed, he woke up famished and better than ever Saturday. Ofcourse I only let him have tea and toast at first, gradually increasing his diet throughout the day as I didn't want to have a reoccurance. Then last night he said his penis hurt a few times, and showed me in the bathroom, couldn't see anything, and no fever, urine clear to yellow, I asked him before he went to bed and he stated " all better now " so am unsure about that, gave heads up to school, just in case he has a UTI, denied any pain this morning, and peed just fine, hmmm. shawna In a message dated 1/13/2008 8:49:51 A.M.
