Guest guest
yep the new one was on HBO too. They said he was diagnosed with depression, and started him on medication, which did seem to help some, then later on in the show, the mom was talking to the doc and saying he was opening/shutting the door and ringing the doorbell repeatedly. The doc explained him as being in the middle of where the circles cross over for depression and compulsion. They never talked about autism, but occasionally I could see some activities like that, lack of eye contact, the lack of speech compared to first show etc. He just seemed sooo alone, some was due to behaviors, he still exhibited in 6th grade and some in middle school, didn't really much in highschool , but they did talk about them at meetings. shawna In a message dated 1/14/2008 2:46:22 P.M. Did he grow out of that? Or is that why maybe he didn't have many friends? Did he seem ASD at all? I've thought of that movie so many times. Was the new one on HBO too? I'll have to keep a lookout for it. Sherry [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
I agree here, even at the high school when he refused to do the laundry work, he went to ISS " In School Supervision " or something like that and just sat in his little cubicle. Weve done behavior modification since nathan was a toddler and things were at their peak behavior wise. shawna In a message dated 1/14/2008 3:03:40 P.M. Guest guest
was from Balcksburg VA. I met his mother on her original lecture tour with the first film. His behavior was AWFUL thru elementary school - hitting, flailing, rolling on the floor - as was Elie's. I cried when I saw the first film. The behavior displayed in the film was even worse than what I was seeing with Elie. But the worst was one saw little or no correction from staff. No behavior mod, no behavior plan. But she kept him in regular classes (we took Elie out after 3rd grade). Maybe that had something to do with 's lack of friends. But where weere the " interveners " to help classmates become part of 's circle since he couldn;t reachout to them?? Elie has friends from janitors to kitchen people to every teacher and many of the students he met in his one year of regular h/s. In the community these people recognize Elie as a valuableperson. As to shoes - makes one wonder - Elie wore velcro white sneakers for years until his PT recommended that he wear tie up shoes for tighter balance and to reduce pronation. BUT we tie them a little looser (still tigher than velcro) and he slips on his own shoes. OF course I mark the facing sides so that he knows right from left. > do you guys remember that little movie called " educating peter " on HBO. > About a boy with DS who started inclusion in third grade.
