Guest guest
You did nothing wrong - autism is the culprit. You cannot be blamed for the quirks and defensiveness of your child. I would suggest that you ask the OT who helps with his sensory defensiveness if there are specific exercises that can be done to help with head and face touching. I can tell you that I can touch Elie's head, brush his hair (with a bristle brush ony) and shave hiom, but he will not have anything to do with it. At one point he would use a nylon scrungie, but it has been years since hea greed to that. All in all - I just work around the issues. Someday they will change and I won't know why or how. Sorry I cannot give more specific advice. > Margaret, I did not see the comics. is 12yr old and he cannot do > anything in the tub.He is tactile defensive and hates touching the > washcloth, and his head.I had him trying to wash his head and I would > even let him wet my hair until he got cellulitis of the head and face > 2 yrs ago.Now he cannot stand anyone to wash his hair or touch the > top of his head.I had to get a helmet so he would stop hitting the > top of his head and then he hit his eyes.I had to decide if I wanted > him to go blind or let him hit the top of his head.He wants to wear > the helmet but then he hits his eyes.He drops the washcloth and will > not hold it to wash.I sing to him and he loves that.Trying to make a > game out of bathtime but he will not do anything for himself.I wonder > some days where I went wrong and why he will not do this. What can we > do different.
