Guest guest
Just moved into new house and half the drains on one side of the house give me a peircing head ache. the shower drain is the worst and sometimes its a wierd gas smell and sometimes it a mildew smell. I've closeed off all the drains on that side of the house and filled them with hydrogen peroxide. Did I mention its septic???
Guest guest
a, I would expect that treatment with hydrogen peroxide (or any other standard drain cleaner that you can tolerate) would do the trick. If not, there may be another problem. Headaches are sometimes caused by sewer gas. It's possible that proper traps are not present (I have seen this) in which case, there is no water seal to stop the sewer gases, so have a professional check to see that the drain piping is correct. If the drain piping was installed by an unskilled do-it-yourselfer, traps may have to be correctly installed. Guest guest
Sewer: with respect to sewer gas you are dealing with multiple contaminants: Hydrogen sulfide and reduced sulfur compounds, molds, gram negative and positive bacteria and the by-product of the microorganisms (molds and bacteria). You most likely have a plugged sewer system, particularly if you are on a septic tank. When was the last time the septic tank was cleaned out.? Do you have dry J-tubes, do you have a clogged drain between the house and the tank or anywhere in the system?
